Mike died with brain death... a gunshot to the head will kill you cerebraly... no brain no zombie.

Yeah I thought the same thing,kind of ignored though as its a good film
here are possible reasons why he is still alive
as they say in the film,"how do we know silver bullets kill werewolves,and not chicken sandwiches etc.."
Also he was an experiment for three years,so you could assume he's had loads of medical work done
and if the bullet caliber was small enough .22 etc his brain wouldn't be that damaged

Actually the .22 is the most commonly used caliber for up-close executions. It's quiet and typically ricochets inside the skull.

The Doctor is out. Far out.

LOL, I cant even remember seeing this film, but yes, you are right, however there are many occasions where people have lived after being shot in the head by a small caliber round, high velocity hollow points are the way to go to finish to the job for certain!

I may be wrong, but I think the reason the Mike and Brent were coherent was because the brain couldn't be fully affected. both characters would have had brain damage before becoming zombies, Mike with a bullet, and Brent with lack of oxygen to the brain due to auto-erotic asphyxiation

there was the other man that was cut in half and we could say that more blood was bled out, and had no oxygen to his brain also. Its just what I gather from the story

Or it could be because of completely different reasons stated in the movie:
47 min into the movie; some scientist working with a crippled zombie says: "The escaped subjects were injected with an alternate strain of the reanimate".

This does apply a few things:
1. The zombies had been created by injecting stuff.
2. The main characters had been injected with a special version of it.
