Did Matteo's wife die at the end or was she merely injured? Didnt see much blood around her so I assumed she was injured. But the tears on the dining table after the incident indicate death so I am not sure.

My interpretation is that she died; otherwise the final scene would have been at a hospital, and the intertwining with the "Tristan und Isolde" storyline indicates death.

Agreed. Plus, this way the parallel with Leo and Isabelle's story (which is implied earlier in the movie) works better.
