Gender Bias?

Im watching the episode of "Chicago Male" Where they serve gay men only, though I understand why they want a "boys only" salon, it wont work money wise, since they are down to 10% of the population and then cut that in half 5% isnt enough income. But instead of understanding the "boys only" concept they were going for, and explaining how it wouldnt work, she went on the "rant" of how they are not serving the women on their knees... Basically I see both sides of this issue, since girls have "Girls only" businesses that serve only women, why cant us men have the same thing as well...... (Discrimination towards women big no no, but they discriminate against men who cares???) Though I fully understand Tabathas point of view she could have handled it better....

The point that Tabatha was making with the Drag Queens and the wigs was a horrible idea, you take men that havent cut womens hair in years and expect perfection the first time out is beyond realistic expectations. Argh!

The "sperm and Overies" comment, Tabatha was correct us gay men wouldnt be here without an overy however she wouldnt be here without a sperm !!!!

Tabatha picking on Drew, yes he needs more training but she was focusing in on him and i think had he been she in a lesbien hair salon Tabatha wouldnt have done so much picking...... I think it was the shows editing, that made him look like more of a princess than the others...

6 Weeks Later...

Everything was cool but i felt that Chicago Male sold out! Had it been Chicago Gal, and they only served women it would have been left alone in that aspect.

I saw this ep a few years ago when it premiered, and I had the same argument.

As a business owner, I can say the way to survive is to have a 'niche' in the industry, where you can stand out from the crowd and develop a following. The 'niche' for CM was catering to a gay male clientele. I think that was a fantastic idea, which should have been expanded upon, not dissolved.

The gay male community is usually well-off. Most polls show that they are highly educated, in high-paying jobs, and have a lot of discretionary income - even with today's economy. The majority of them are not weighed down with heavy expenses (such as a child's private or college education), and are able to spend the extra money lavishly on themselves (which is why the gay male vacation industry is still booming).

So Tabatha should have taken this niche idea they devleoped, realized the potential growth, and ran further with it. Maybe that meant to hire better stylists, maybe that meant to expand the services offered (day spa? massage therapy? etc.) The answer certainly WAS NOT to change the focus and cater to both sexes and kids.

She was completely wrong on this one, IMO.

Thank you, First person to ever agree with my views. I tend to think outside the box and dont let a social no no stop me from thinking it lol.....

BTW I wasnt issued my "discretionary income" when I "joined" the team! lol

While I see your point, you have to consider that the business was sinking and when it's sinking beggars can't be choosers.

There isn't any reason that the salon can't be predominantly gay male but at the point where the business was it's something it needs to earn through reputation.

Tabatha wasn't really picking on Drew, he'd do something and she'd ask him if he noticed anything, he'd wouldn't then she'd point out the issue and he made excuses for it. Excuses don't fix the issue though or show someone realises their problem and that they can improve just shows they are reluctant to accept the criticism or improve.

Women tend to spend more on their hair then men, even gay men. Most men just get a cut that's wash and go and don't need a lot of styling or product so their not going to make the kind of money a salon that serves women does.
I think it was more of a point that if a woman needed to get her hair done she would be turned away. It's basically like saying "We don't need your money" when they're already in financial trouble. I've never heard of a place turning someone away because of their gender, it's stupid and bad for business.

Dont get me wrong I love Tabatha... I get my opinion based on what has happened to me personally, gyms, doctors office, etc. can and have been "women only" but i have never seen any business been "Men only" For example, there is a gay hotel/motel type place in Las Vegas, NV it is small but it is designed to be "Men Only" because it is clothing optional as well. Because of "laws" they cannot directly say "men only, no females allowed" yet the other businesses can and do say this for women only places. ARGH
