What he said is why I got out of the Navy.

In the Spartan episode he makes comments about how the Spartans trained together, worked together, and relied on each other. It's all about beinga team, having faith that every man on that line was going to be there no matter what. I was a radar technician on the Nimitz and there was sense of unity. Sure, the ship motto was "teamwork" but it was every man for himself.

Instead of having the feeling that you were a part of the whole, you were made to feel that you were alone. None of my supervisors would stand up for me and my work. They were so afraid of looking bad they would make you do extra work so they could look good on paper.

One guy even wanted to blame everything that happened on my equipment. "what if an airplane crashes?" IFF does not affect a plane engine. And the reason you can't get a signal off a Russian trawler or a Green Peace ship is because they are the enemy and aren't playing with us. If a target blip does not respond they are hostile, if one plane out of 30 does not respond, then there is something wrong with the plane, not my system.

They even went so far as to want to deny me leave after a deployment cause a month later we were going to have an inspection and they thought I would not prep the equipment properly. It only takes a day or two to run all the tests on the 5 systems, but NOoooo, they felt that a month was not long enough and if I took more than a week they would not pass.

I laughed when the inspector was this little old man who told me right up front that we were not going to run all of the tests.

Team work. It works only if you are playing the same game.

Yeah, that's one reason I got out too. It was during peacetime, and no biggy. But if war broke out at any time, those idiots would get me kilt.

Maybe now that we're at war, they are cleaning up their act. This swabbie isn't holding his breath. :)

Imagine that.
