I was waiting for Stan Lee to show up in the beginning, but he never did. Why not?

I was wondering the same thing.

In a break from previous X-men movies, which shot mostly in and around Vancouver, this movie was filmed in the U.K. As he said on Twitter, the traveling distance was a problem for him:

Warriors mine, grieve thee not that I have no cameo in X-Men 1st Class. ‘Tis just that the movie was filmed too far away for me to attend
