Am halfway thru the movie, maybe this question is answered later, but why does the alien computer thing "Clea" (I think) AND the aliens speak English?

Or, in the Galactic Tongue: Because most humans in this day and age do not speak any fictional futuristic alien languages. Those who do typically only speak Klingon and since the majority of folks need to understand this film, it's done in the most widely spoken language.
Plus, the Centaruri does state that the human is speaking his language, not an Earth one. ;-)

Maybe the OP would prefer the entire movie be done in made-up gobbledygook, and all the viewers have to read subtitles the whole way through. Myself, I prefer they just pretend English is [alien-speak]. Difficult to believe though it may seem, I'm able to work out for myself that it wouldn't really be English if this story were true. :-)
