Horrible movie

This movie has to be one of the worst I have ever seen. The acting was deplorable, particularly the lead. The irritating thing is, they took what could have been a good message and totally ruined it. The idea that these kids were happier because they had "found god" or whatever. In fact, I remember that as an exact quote in the movie. It is good to raise awareness that kids who appear to be "cutters," aren't always as weird/creepy as they seem, and often they are just normal kids with normal problems. The sad thing is that the movie ruined they message they were trying to portray by the sh*tty acting, and that God was the entire reason why these kids had no problems. It's a great thing to reach out to people in high school, but this film did a horrible job at portraying it.
Don't waste your time.

FYI - When you find God, you DO find joy & peace. No one ever said that from that point on, everything in your life would be easy or fun. Recall when Jake found God, he did experience an uplifting, but he was soon brought down again when he learned of his parents divorcing and his girlfriend getting pregnant. His faith, though, carried him through, and he remained strong.
Scriptures also NEVER say that this life is easy, but that those who place their trust in the LORD are content.

John 16:33 says “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 says, "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

James 1:12 states, "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

This film is very inspiring for most teens. It provokes thoughts and causes them to desire to better themselves. It is impactful, because of its message. Look beyond the acting, dude, and realize what it truly has to offer. This generation faces far more pressures and struggles than any other in history. Films such as this help to break through barriers in teen society. It teaches them how to handle situations in a way that brings positive effects. It teaches teens how to be Christ-like, how to lift up those in need. It teaches them to bring glory to God.

This film is NOT a waste of your time.

You are just confirming that this is a christian movie. I understand the message they were trying to portray, it's just that they needed to do it differently. It is nice to reach out to kids that are outside of your social circle, but they shouldn't have made God the main reason for action in this film. For example, maybe Jake could have found out that his friend was a huge dick, so therefore he would begin to hang out with kids who weren't *beep* types. I found it ineffective that they portrayed God as the reason for action. The whole reason Jake would do anything nice was because of God. This film needs to expand it's horizons.

@ reedsligar. I'm really not sure if you know what you're talking about. And quite frankly, it wasn't about the acting, it was about the message. And the message was clearly identified. I thought the movie was very inspirational, and it showed how you can change your life by surrounding yourself with people that will make a positive impact on your life. By doing this, you will find the strength and courage to do what is right, and to stand up for those less fortunate, or mistreated. Once you connect with the true message this movie is trying to portray, you will find the beauty in this production. And throughout the movie, you could tell that Jake's eyes were opening, and he is finally realizing the impact he can make on people's lives. As a Catholic, I am able to link the messages of this movie to the powerful ways that God works through us, and in us, to make us better people in general.

Personally I am agnostic. The last few people to remark on my post were quoting the bible and such. I get the message they were trying to portray, but it was poorly executed. And yes I do know what I'm talking about, I can just see that you don't appreciate my opinion.

@reedsligar As I look back on the comment I made, I realize that you were right. It truly wasn't portrayed as well as I had thought 2 and a half years ago. I have matured quite a bit since then, and I apologize for my abrasive attitude in my comment. Happy New Year!

I don't know if I'd say that the kids "had no problems". Suicide and depression were still an issue up until the very end of the movie (and will continue to be so, as stuff like that doesn't just disappear), Amy still has to deal with the social stigma of having been a single mom, and Jake's parents have divorced. And that's still after asking for God's help.

God doesn't solve these problems seen in the movie; people do. Some of the characters in the movie are Christians, and it isn't so much God intervening, but the characters asking for guidance and the knowledge to do the right thing and putting that to use.

You could argue that atheist characters could have done the same without all of the Christian "filler" in this movie, and yes, you would be correct. However, I don't view To Save a Life as advertising Christianity as some magical cure-all.

Ok, well the Christian filler was unnecessary.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. However, I'd recommend checking out It's Kind of a Funny Story. It might be more up your alley.
