Jazmine

I have to say that "Snog Marry Avoid?" is a secret, guilty pleasure for me, as I like to present myself as a little more...refined. ;) However, being someone who liked to stand out from the mainstream when I was younger, I find it interesting to see how much people contrast with their image. I've always believed (and also know by experience) that it's important not judge someone's intelligence or personality by their appearance, but I think it's human nature to question it when they are not making the most out of their best physical attributes.

In my view, "Pod" (or, dare I say, her real name, Sue) and the makeover team only get it fully right about half the time. Obviously, they always make some improvement, but this isn't difficult considering they have, no-doubt, chosen the worst cases, or the ones for whom they can make the most difference (ie. the very good-looking).

With Jazmine, in this week's episode (season 6, ep 2), I think they got it spot on! Her skin became a tone that most sallow Britons would be completely envious, and her hair, although being quite formal, looked chic and sophisticated. The new look seemed to actually change the proportions of her face, meaning that it was not as long, making her classically beautiful.

The other aspect of the show that I find interesting is the way it shows how differently we view ourselves compared with how others view us.

It was obvious from the reaction she got on the podwalk, and the fact that she was complimented so much when she went out (people bought her lots of drinks), that everyone thought the makeover was a great improvement. It's such a shame, then, that she still could not appreciate, or feel comfortable with, her own beauty.

And my answer to that "important" question...a smart girl, who looks sophisticated, and is as lovely as "podified"-Jazmine? Without hesitation: "Marry"! ;)
