I could be wrong, but I think Laurin was actually the founder of the company in his son's body. Here's why....

When the black couple first escape in the mall, Laurin acts scared and strange (kind of like a kid). The next day, when talking to the lady that's currently running the company he says it was a mistake and "he won't give up on the boy". I'd have to watch it again but I'm pretty sure he was talking about his nighttime host.

The next time Laurin turns into the kid at night, he tells the girl that his sister looks out for him.

At the end of the movie, it's revealed that Laurin is hosting the supposedly dead founder. If that's the case, and his daughter runs the company, then putting two and two together, the host body must be that of his son. From the sounds of it, he probably tested his transfer theory on his son as the first test subject when he was just a kid. It worked, but as his body grew older into a man he retained the mentality of a child because he only had 4 hours awake every day/night.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on what happened.
