clearly you are not aware of Mr. Brubaker's body of work. The man is a phenomenal writer. Maybe you dont like the movie, fine, but he is far from a hack.
shareLet's be clear, though: his "body of work" is in comic books, not films. He has one completed film credit on IMDB, this one. Pretty tough to judge anyone as a hack or not based on one film.
shareYeah, I can't speak for Brubaker's comic work, but, this story was pretty lame. The fight sequences are pretty enjoyable, but I didn't care for the story, main actress, the look and feel of the style cinematography, music was lame.
shareHis comic work is very highly regarded especially his current stories. I'm an avid comic fan and he's one of my favorite comic writers.
Can't speak to his writing for the screen ability tho.

What... have you only watched this movie, and Schindler's List? What are you comparing this movie to? Maybe Ive just seen too many flicks.... but I could fill a journal with movie titles worse than this. Lets try constructive criticisms maybe rather than a comment like this which serves no purpose to anyone who reads it.
Everyone who needs perspective on the scale of 1 - 10 , bad to good.... watch Death bed, Day of the Dead 2: Contagium, Zombiez, Nekromantik, ... or every Uwe Boll flick. THEN tell me THIS was the worst. and Then ill call you an idiot if ya do, cause you're full of $@&%.
This movie is not a terrible waste of time. Unless of course you were looking to watch the new Twilight movie or whatever crap teen wet flick is popular and empty these days. This actually had some good times, the action is solid, its obviously meant to be tongue in cheek humour. Over the top fight sequences are well done for the budget. Zoe Bell kicks some serious ass. It's just a little bit gory, a little bit cheese, and how could anyone accidentally see a movie like this without realizing that maybe its key audience isn't YOU. Brubaker is probably a hack tho, but sometimes that's good too.
Judge for yourselves. Who likes chicks who shoot and beat the #@$! outta people. *raises hand* So lets say... not as good as a movie like Payback, but better than crap like Wanted. And cost alot less to make.
Read "Sleeper" and say it again. Sleeper is set in the Wildstorm Universe and combine that with ed's writing = badass.
shareAngel of Death is godawful but everything else that Brubaker has written is absolutely brilliant. The man is a genius and a master of crime noir. Hopefully his talents will translate better to the screen one day. I don't know what is up with this movie, it doesn't at all resonate with the rest of his work. You should read Sleeper or the Criminal series to get a better taste of Brubaker. He is my favorite comic writer up there with Brian Michael Bendis and Darwin Cooke.

And can confidently say that this guy is an amazing writer.
