About the film
Does Denise Quinones or any other woman get nude? Is there any sex? And how bad is the violence? I'm thinking of taking a 16 year old to see it. Thanks.

No, some tit but nothing scandalous.

The violence is crude but nothing beyond the usual in Hollywood. There's a pig being butchered, though.

shareyeah - maybe I'm too accustomed to seeing tits in movies to have noticed it, but the only tits I remember seeing were on the pig which I believe was actually killed - kudos for the special effects team if they managed not to actually kill the pig, but yeah - I didn't see any disclaimer saying there were no animals harmed during the making of this film. Not that that really bothers me much. Pigs get killed every day - lots of them. I love ham and bacon and pork chops.
shareI read this somewhere: The production talked to a butcher because they really wanted to film the actual butcher actually killing the pig. So if I read correctly, the killing of that pig is as real as it can be.

I was the 1st AC on 'La Soga'.
The pig butchering is indeed real. From what I remember, we had to arrive well before dawn on that day near the end of the shoot so the butcher could do his thing and have time to get together before he opened his shop for the day.
We actually arrived there late the day before and had to reschedule for the following day!
There's nothing quite like the sound of a pig squealing. Sends shivers down your spine. When the butcher dragged him out that day from his stall, the pig was resisting heavily -- like he knew what was about to happen.
We shot two cameras (wide and tight), both at 120 frames/second, allowing the editor to ramp the speed up and down.
I remember being most impressed with the boy playing the young La Soga -- he was completely undeterred by the gruesome scene, didn't bat an eyelash about touching the knife, covering the pig's eyes, etc. He was great.
I spent about 6-7 weeks in the D.R. for the shoot and look back on it fondly. Wonderful country.

none of the main characters... It's a drug dealer's girlfriend. Someone is threatening to cut her breast with a pair of scissors. You can see her breast. There's violence throughout the film, people are either shot or stabbed.
