Love takes no time?

Why does it seem the time period has not changed at all since the first movie? I mean, it's been atleast a few decades since the first one, and they seem to have the same fashion and live in the same time period, but maybe there wasn't much change in the laste 1800s. Can anyone explain?

Love takes no time as these women characters become widows and find new husbands that are just as wonderful as their first husbands were. Lots of widows, orphans, adopted children and lame acting.
