Saddes 'real ' life films i've ever seen..

It made me realise how unprotected and neglected these children are..another reason why I think abortion should be legal.

abortions are legal in the UK

It's a real antidote to the whole cosy adoption myth perpetuated by drek such as Juno.

Pro-lifers don't seem to realise that the amount of children living in these bleak conditions will only increase should abortion be made illegal. The condition itself will only worsen, what with the greater strain on resources that more children in care would create. Even more cases of neglect and abuse would go unnoticed, because of overcrowding and lack of supervision.

Abortion is certainly not a pleasant reality, but is surely the lesser of the two evils in this kind of situation.

"It's a real antidote to the whole cosy adoption myth perpetuated by drek such as Juno."

I know right? It's kinda like "well now that you've enjoyed your nice little session playing guitar, what's going to happen to that baby of yours?"

I couldn't believe the statistics they gave at the end of The Unloved. That is shocking.

reply

Thing is, lifers think that any life is better than none at all.

God I know, the whole thing was just so sad from beginning to end. I found the first scene really hard to watch as well. My mother is a paediatrician and she told me they are now being taught to recognise radiation burns because people microwave their babies. It just makes you feel so depressed for humanity.

Cause I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale...

If you can find it, have a butchers at 'No Child of Mine' that should be interesting.

You would wish death upon all those who suffered through abuse and poverty?

You just said I would be better off dead. Thanks for that.

I grew up in poverty, as did all of my family. Every single one of us was abused in varying measures (sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse) and yet here I am. Extremely thankful for my life and grateful that abortion was the last thing in my poverty stricken mother's mind when she was pregnant with me.

The answer to abuse and suffering is not death but education, greater compassion for our suffering brothers and sisters and awareness.

But again it's good to know you think I'd be better off dead.

Glad that you brought that up Nicky. I read the comments a month ago after seeing this movie but decided to hold my peace. Even from the standpoint of the film, I'd rather hold onto hope that Lucy will come across people in life who'll genuinely love and care for her. Folks who'll show her that there's more to this existence than pain and suffering. "If only her mom had didn't have her/aborted her" never came to mind. Anyway, glad to have you among the living and sorry to hear what you went through.
