whats wrong with this movie?

The trailer looks pretty good, and the cast is solid and has several names that could carry a movie through a good theatrical release-
however, it used to be called Rouge’s Gallery and is now called Opperation Endgame which is never a good sign and it's going straight to dvd? What's wrong with this movie?

Small production. This isn't being made by a major studio, so that's probably it. Despite it's A-list cast and it being produced by the guy who made Donnie Darko, it's still a fairly small production. This is also the director and writer's first film.

This is not an A-list cast.

It's an A-List cast with a D-list script, that's what. It makes no sense. Plus it wants to act like a sophisticated thriller but ends up being a Friday The 13th wannabe.

I wouldn't say A-list cast. But its a good cast. Poorly executed story. It also didn't know what genre it wanted to fit into. It should have stayed with comedy/spy movie. But it turns into this weird thriller towards the end. Director and writer messed this one up. Its still probably worth viewing if you are interested in it because it is funny but don't expect too much.

And they use some misleading advertising. Zach Galafawhatever is marketed as being a big name in this movie, but has a really small and mostly unfunny role.

For such a great comedic cast, the movie really isn't too funny. There are some really great moments but, overall, it just wasn't too good. When I saw the cast list, I was pretty excited as I had never heard of it. It seemed kind of a waste to have so many hilarious people in such an unfunny script. It was pretty much a generic spy movie only with a cast filled with comedians. I think it was a decent concept but the script bred from the concept was extremely poor and cast all wrong if this is the kind of movie they wanted to make. Definitely a letdown but I still find myself at least glad that I gave it a chance.

Small production? A students film is *beep* Hollywood compared to this garbage!

reply

Yeah right... and your list of funny movies is?

Rob Corddry was very funny in this movie.
Secondly, there are no "categories" of actors... a usually funny actor doesn't mean he cannot play a serious role, i wasn't expecting Zach to be funny in this movie, this is not a romantic comedy for fok sake.

And the only reason it wasn't so popular is because it was a low budget movie, hence 20 minutes lenght... but this movie is 10 times better than most movies that make it to the big screen, it's a 7/10 for me, very watchable filled of action, gore and comedy, nice mix.

Agreed so far from a-list, even for tv what with all the aging real a-listers these days this is no a-list, otherwise if brad pitt ,george clooney and reese witherspoon were in the film would it be an A+ star film??? see makes no sense at all so this at best is a film C star or tv b star cast.

reply

You don't know what you're talking about. Most of the cast has been top billed in recent big box office movies. That's the definition of an A-list star.

reply

You sound more like you don't know what you are talking about.

Rob Corrdry and Zach Galifinakis are nowhere near A-list and they are biggest stars in this movie. "Most of the cast"? That's just ridiculous.

Why not just enjoy it for what it is? 80 minutes of ridiculously high strung suits, beating the ever-living $h1t out of each other with random office supplies. This is kind of like a cross between Office Space and Pineapple Express... only without the weed and comical talent.

If you follow comedy, this is in fact an a-list cast. It has a lot of the best up and comers.

For biting comedy it was an A-list cast at the time.

I thought it was a pretty horrible concept that was badly written. The cast is awesome, I was so disappointed to see them not able to act in a funny or meaningful way. Why take all these great people and make them do this movie??

reply

Well, basically it's really really bad. Just a poor movie. That cast is literally the only thing about it that isn't sub-standard. How they got so many great actors I have no idea.

reply

The entire concept based on political beliefs is kind of gay. Had it been something like "The CIA felt like the Factory is useless so they sent someone in to take all their cash and have the Factory workers kill one another", it will be better.

It's one of those "it's so bad it's good" movies IMO. I gave it a 6/10.

No kidding. I wasn't expecting much as I knew it was low budget. But thats no excuse for this. The lighting and direction was right up there with teens basement movies shot on home cameras and tossed on you tube. Truly a poor job by a very untalented writer director. The script sucked bad too. How he got this cast is boggling.... The guy that made this has no talent at all.

I saw this movie cold. I knew nothing what so ever about it before I saw it.

I would say that the problem is that somehow they got confused between a thriller and a comedy. It should have been one or the other. There is a great little thriller in there want to get out, but its suppressed by the comedy, and vice versa.

I reckon that had it been made as a low budget thriller / horror it would have worked very well. Not so sure about it being a straight comedy, since the comedy that was there was not, for me, funny enough.

reply

nothing really, it's fast-paced, funny, with a solid plot... real enjoyable , with a sharp insight into real life "geopolitics" ... maybe it was a bit too short, i would hav loved knowing more than a short data-snapshot about each character... , but it isn't a spy movie, more a satirical piece... anyway i saw far far far worse movies, a lot of which i had high expectations of, this 1 was humbly satisfying, & i won't dwell analyzing why it received such negative response from people here, since i guess too few hav seen it yet, maybe u ppl just want to bury a hurting truth is all...

reply

So you are saying a movie has to be either a comedy or thriller? This movie may not be great but I am 100% sure that they planned to have multiple genres in this film. This movie pretty much follows the comedy/horror genre that films like Shaun of the Dead, Severence, and Zombieland have used recently. This movie would of failed completely if they used this cast and made just a straight up thriller.

Standard comedy/horror films:
Like the few movies I listed above, this film starts off like a comedy and slowly becomes darker and darker while still throwing the audience a whacky scene here and there.

I actually went into this movie thinking it was going to be a straight comedy with a little gore and was a little suprised by a few serious moments.

reply

being a first time director, he should have not tried to do a comedy horror at the same time.

It is too convoluted and he did not do justice to either genre. the movie is confused on what it wanted to be.

Horror comedy can be done when the comedy is clever and the horror is not done in a cheesy way. when the jokes are clever but the horror is taken seriously. This movie is the opposite of that. jokes that are dumb and not funny, and horror that is cheesy and lame.

Shouldn't have been a comedy.

reply

Wouldn't have worked any better as a drama. The real problem with this film was the political timing. Obama's administration took a big hit right when this film was pimping it.

I'm pretty sure the bubblegum quote is from Duke Nukem.

Uhh, can Duke Nukem pre-date 1988? I seem to remember a duke nukem side scroller, but even that was early to mid 90's. No, that quote is from "They Live."

Looks like you're right. I withdraw my statement.
