Maybe my english isn't perfect, but does this plot makes sence to you? He tries to bring him and...then bury him?? He's dead? It doesn't specify it.
Yes... it pretty clearly implies that he's dead.

The whole movie is about her trying to reclaim his body from the Mexican outlaws who kept it after he was killed. And she goes through ALOT to get it back.
