So disgusting for black people

Its like the tv company meant "Black people cant create their own IP. Thats why we have to put them into a white franchise". Its absolutely an completely disgusting and destroys this series which could be even fun. Gender and/or race swapping is a racist or sexist as possible.

It's like what Daniel Craig said. Why create a female James Bond? Create a new female agent instead. It's really not hard but it doesn't guarantee the kind of attention they crave. Liberals are generally lazy.

reply

Your last statement was uncalled for. Saying "Liberals are generally lazy" is as ignorant as saying "Conservatives generally have low IQ".

You have preconceived biases which seem strong and deep and in your mind "liberal" (which means freedom) is a bad thing. Why would freedom be a bad thing? Freedom of choice, freedom of and from religion etc.?
These are principles enshrined in our constitution and you likely consider the founding fathers "liberal" and hate them too for this reason because they focus on freedoms of people.

I think you should put aside such biases and understand the other person's view first.

reply

No. It's true. Liberals are generally lazy. And liberal does NOT mean freedom. They did in the past. The modern liberal is more of a fascist.

reply

It's true, liberals wanna be controlling so they can spank each other.

reply

Why do you think it is true? There are a lot of industrious liberals. Protesting takes a lot of work and energy and liberals protest as well. That alone proves you wrong that liberals are lazy.

And there are many Democrats who are liberal (but not crazy extreme left) in many positions and have achieved a lot of things from one of our greatest Presidents of all time, Pres. Obama to even Pres. Biden who are both amazing and have done lots of amazing things for America.

Liberal means freedom as in freedom to express yourself how you want, dress how you want, live how you want and women make decisions about their reproductive rights how they want.

What's not to support on that? If you take one of those quizzes like isidewith.com etc. you might find you have many "liberal" positions too and there's nothing wrong with that.

IMO extremism is very bad. GOP is extreme now and thanks to the worst and most corrupt and low IQ person ever to hold Presidency, not to mention a 2 time popular vote loser aka Donald Trump, people are normalizing idiocy now as if it is good to be an idiot. No, it's not still. Similarly, we have idiots on left like Sanders and AoC who are clueless as well and I think America only works when we have moderate left and right center like Obama/Biden and Romney types who do well. Sadly more Dems are centrist than GOP who have massively moved to the extreme right. This is what ails America today. Horrible people like Moscow Mitch McConnell with his hypocrisy around SCOTUS to just name one. Worst guy in America after Trump

reply

A better way to phrase it would be "the liberals that dominate Hollywood are generally lazy." With reboots like this it's indisputable. They're looking to capitalize on the brand recognition of older shows with cheap gimmicks like gender and race swaps.

reply

🤣

reply

Can't indoctrinate mass amounts of people with terrible new IPs.

That's why they leech onto existing properties with built-in audiences. They can push whatever they want and at least secure some kind of recognition/attachment from the core audience, even if it's fleeting.

That's what one of the executives for Masters of the Universe: Revelation revealed in a Facebook post as to why they race-swapped King Grayskull instead of making a new black character for the universe. The idea is that they are replacing white iconography while at the same time inculcating people with the sort of ideology they want to normalize.

reply

What is this controversy here? I never watched this show. What did they do?

reply

The producers are using the name of the classic TV series The Wonder Years (1988-1993). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wonder_Years

Some people take offense to any use of non-white actors in a role that they feel is reserved for white actors. While the production company could have gone with a different name for the series, this could have lead to accusations of the new show being a black rip-off of a "white show".

I think the "controversy" is complaining about the race of the actors instead of the quality of the content.

reply

Has this version even aired yet? Is it another story based on the concept of a boy growing up in the ‘60s? Or are they taking all the original scripts and re-doing them with new actors? Nothing wrong with the first case as a generation of kids grew up during the “wonder years”. It could be interesting to follow the life of another kid and his family during that era. But if they are just re-casting the old storyline then that is pointless. This isn’t Shakespeare and nothing is to be gained from running these cute but simple stories again.

reply

Yes, they are two episodes in as of October 6th. As with most films/TV shows there is a link at the top of the page to bring you to IMDB. Here is a link to the episode list. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12682076/episodes?ref_=ttfc_ql_tv_1 The ratings average out to 7 out of 10 so far. So it seems some people are enjoying the show.

The premise is similar to the original show. A direct copy of the original scripts would be rather strange to say the least.

Just as some people would be offended if a white guy played Luke Cage, if a black guy played Shang-Chi, etc. And just like so many people have been offended by older Hollywood films that had white people playing Egyptians, American Indians, and so forth. There is nothing unique whatsoever in some white people wanting classically white characters to remain white.

Elisha Williams is portraying Dean Williams, not Kevin Arnold. This is the same with the other characters. Does anyone here think that the new cast is simply playing a black version of the original cast? The scripts are different, not duplicates.

Yes, the new series is inspired by the original and they obviously used the same name to capitalize on the popularity of the original series. Taking offence to this is what is known as a "personal problem".

You mistake disrespect for "being offended," at least in my case. But, if it's okay to be "offended" by Scarlett Johansson playing a Japanese character then it's fine in my book for white people to be analogously offended by Idris Elba playing Heimdall. If you like those sort of rules then live by them consistently and stop whining when the "wrong" race in your book speaks up.

reply

You might have a case if Elisha Williams was portraying Kevin Arnold, but he is playing another character instead.

I'm not offended by changing the race or gender of a fictional character. I'm merely a consumer of certain media, not a cult member.

reply

Seeing as how popular (white) culture continually steals from black art and culture I don't see an issue. You're creating a wholly fictitious narrative and projecting what YOU probably believe onto the "tv company" while falsely claiming efforts at diversity and inclusion are racist/sexist.

reply

You're slinging propaganda. Every race is guilty of "stealing" other people's art. You also need a lesson in the appropriate terminology. It's called "cultural appropriation" by our lovely language fascists of today.

reply

So you're educating me by providing a synonym?🤣 GTFOH

reply

I dont think the "issue" is blacks stealing white culture (in the eys of those that have an issue)
Its just that a black person is on their tv , and its a remake of a show featuring white people.
so they are upset and angry .
They dont know why , but they feel sleighted in some way .

reply

It is stealing white culture, though. They do it all the time.

reply

"Growing up in the 60s" is not exclusively a white phenomenon.

" They do it all the time. " like what?

reply

No, but the 'wonder' part of The Wonder Years is at loggerheads with the narrative black Americans have been complaining about for years and to this day. So why would they have such a show? Makes no sense. And why not just create a new one that has nothing to do with The Wonder Years? Because that would require work and originality and effort. The easy thing to do is take the successful white show and make it black. Call it like it is.

Just like The Twilight Zone. Just like with Foundation. Maybe most egregiously is remaking Macbeth with a black man, which is incomprehensibly stupid. Instead of re-imagining Macbeth in a different place and time. They also decided to make Lady Macbeth Medicare eligible. If white people did something like that, it would be such a racist hate crime, Al Sharpton would have to intervene with Michelle Obama weeping in the background.

And we must have a black Superman and Batman and Spider-Man but not a white Black Panther because he is special. Being black is what he is all about. White people don't deserve the same consideration. We need a black James Bond and make him a her, too, while you are at it.

Can't create a new spy. That would be too logical. Gotta use James Bond.

You name a successful white character and they will eventually demand to take it over. That's the extent of their imagination.

Did you know Spock had an adopted sister, black of course, who taught him the ways of wisdom? Neither did I. But he did. Her name was Burnham, arguably the most boring character in Star Trek history. At least the actress playing her is boring. That is racist, of course. Anything said negative about a black person is automatically racist.

And there is not much worse than 'woke' Star Trek.

reply

Exactly.
