US version versus UK

Just curious if anyone else out there has seen both versions? I just finished with the UK and I have them on ebay now. Great production however I just loved the US one so much more.

The UK version of Life On Mars has justed started showing on PBS. As I have only seen the US version, (I just loved it), I just saw the first episode of the UK version. It started out just the same as the US version.
I do not understand why the US version was cancelled if it was cancelled. I thought is was very good as I was in high school in 1973 so it was great to hear all the songs from that period. I could only think that a younger audience might think it was like watching an old episode of Starsky and Hutch. I hope that it will return but probably no hope for that.
So I will watch the UK version and hope that it follows through to the conclusion.

i guess it depends on which u see first, and from which country u come from. i LOVE the UK version but I am from the UK so can identify with the slang and the music, also I have lived in Manchester so its nice to see places i recognise, and to see a show not set in london. Philip Glenister who plays Gene Hunt in the UK version is awesome at his role.
i watched a few episodes of the american version and got annoyed that they seem to have copied the original BBC series word for word in some parts, so i didnt carry on watching because it would be like seeing the same stuff again. i dislike it when american shows copy the really good British shows (and vice versa). the only successful time i can think of this happening is The Office; An American Workplace and that flourished because it took off on its own steam and didnt just copy the British version throughout, like Life on MArs has seemed to do.

I agree with you tej_rai. Although I never saw the british version until now. I have to turn on the captioning because I have trouble understanding some of the words and slang but I'm liking the british version. I also found that show plays the songs from that time so it is still quite nostalgic.
Anyhow the show is great.

Well, I'm American and tried watching the US version first and couldn't get into it. The UK version is one of my all-time favorite shows and is just brilliant. And also, it has Philip Glenister. I don't care if I occasionally need to turn on the subtitles, you can get the body language and inflections just fine. This kind of perfection just doesn't translate.

UK version is far superior. The US version was unnecessary. If someone from another country (than Britain) adapts the series it should be to adapt it to and bring the unique aspects of that culture to the show's premise. The US version is sort of like a bland copy. And the final episode and solution is just stupid. The US version wasn't terrible and perhaps if it had been the original, it would've come off more successfully. There's a Spanish version that failed as well. I've heard good things about the Russian version (Dark Side of the Moon) in which Gene is the Cold War era by the book Gene and Sam is the modern rule breaker.
