doom+event horizon+resident evil= dead space

not bad for an intro to the game, i got the game but i was waiting for the movie to start playing it, it sets the scene for the game,

basically its doom together with event horizon mixed together and resident evil and u have dead space

reply

Yeah. Pretty much.

I watched Event Horizon just the other night to freshen up on some of the things in that movie and will be eagerly wanting to see the similarities in Dead Space and play through them.

Now I'm waiting for my Dead Space: Downfall to arrive, watch that, then play the game. Fun! :)

Dead Space consists of several games for me:

- Doom 3:
Exactly the same setting as in Dead Space.
- Quake 4:
In the end, this reminded me soooo much of Quake 4. The enemies are repetitive as in Quake 4. In the end you just run through shooting them instead of being shocked to death like in the beginning - like in Quake 4. Same somehow silly mission objects (why the hell do I have to pull this damn Marker all the way through four halls all looking the same crowded with the same enemies?) like in Quake 4.
- Bioshock:
The Rapture style is just clearly obvious (just take those advertising billboards).

Nevertheless, this was the most shocking game I ever played (especially in the beginning), the atmosphere is just great. If you can stand it - play it :)

In that case Bioshock:The Rapture copeid off of Doom 3 which did it before that or and Duke Nukem way back in the day had ads fo non existant poducts and stuff.

Oh and Duke Nukem ripped lines off of everyone, "Good, bad, im the guy with the gun." was from Evil Dead "I have come hee to chew bubble gum and kick ass" was Roddy Roddy Piper in They Live which was a John Carpenter movie.

BioShock was the spiritual successor to System Shock 2 (created by the same developer back in 1999).

Not Doom 3.

If you're going to compare it to other movies, how the hell can you not mention Alien? It's almost a total ripoff/homage, and much closer than the other movies/games you mentioned, and Event Horizon is also heavily influenced by Alien.

1. Alien relic on distant planet, check.
2. Scrappy marines/security guards, check.
3. Facehuggers that turns humans into aliens, check.
4. Heavy duty tools used as weapons, check.
5. Aliens flushed out into space, check.
6. Evil corporation doing everything to get their hands on the alien/alien artifact, check.
7. I could probably go on but will stop now.

The movie was pretty average, not good not bad. The only positive it had going for it was that it had some adult content, which you don't often see in western animation. I sure hope the game is better than the movie.

There is absolutely some 'Alien' in this game. As a matter of fact, I read an article in 'Game Informer' about a year ago saying that the influences for the game were films The Thing, Event Horizon, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alien, director David Fincher, and Half-Life 2, which is a game. I'd say they hit the mark on all of them. I like the game a lot.

According to the article I read they borrowed the atmosphere of dread, horror, and corrupted space from Silent Hill. They wanted to capture the constant fear you have while playing Silent Hill. I'd say they did it! Go ahead and finish Silent Hill. It ain't pretty, but it is interesting.

Dead space wasn't scary but its SO *beep* fun lol Its my favorite thirdperson.I love everything about it lol.Only scary part 1 when we see the first monster with no weapon and he can actually attack you lol after that nothing xD but yeah I saw a lot of the influences in the game Doom 3 has to be the most notable llol

I see a Lost Planet(game) reference. The yellow on certain monsters =D

Yeah, everyone's made good points. Didn't see it but anyone mention john carpenters the thing? oh yeah they did, well, yeah. But it's piecing together now, the game seemed a lot like an old sci-fi horror and was wondering why, and now I can see.

Excellent game, film is yet to be watched as I hear it has game spoilers.
And to kaltag2003, yeah, it would have a sequel because it's a prequel to the game.

I really don't see the Silent Hill coming through, though I will say Dead Space has legitimately scared me more than once but it's more things surprising you. Silent Hill has a more genuine fear feeling, IMO, because it retains an aura of despair throughout, you're not just scared that the dogs might surprise-attack you, you're scared you might not make it. The SH team was really good at making you feel weak and that things probably won't get any better.

Dead Space utilizes more stuff blasting out of walls, lighting, and overbearing noise to scare you and it really does work; I was truly surprised by that. Also the inventive fighting style, some enemies can be easy but only if you rip them apart limb by limb, it is just amazing - though terribly difficult at times. My only real complaint with the game really would be environments looking too similar after a while but really when your game is based on an abandoned, monster-ridden, space station what can you expect?

I did really feel the Doom, Alien, and the Thing feeling from the game. I can somewhat see Resident Evil, if we're talking about Resident Evil 4; I found the enemies similar (once you behead the human enemies).

For those interested I read recently they are developing Doom 4.

I think Pandorum (2009) exceeds this one in all respects.

Lol, your comment made me laugh cause it's true. However, the anime is *beep* Don't let it put you off the game which is without a doubt ten times as good.

Go to the loo, 'cause all the *beep*'s coming out your mouth instead of your a-hole...

Dead Space is a ripoff/homage to Alien/Aliens, The Thing & System Shock 2 (PC game).

I'd say more like Alien and Aliens mixed with The Thing

It's more like Resident Evil 4 + System Shock 2 + Aliens + The Thing.

reply

Event Horizon + The Thing. That pretty much covers it.
