I really don't see the Silent Hill coming through, though I will say Dead Space has legitimately scared me more than once but it's more things surprising you. Silent Hill has a more genuine fear feeling, IMO, because it retains an aura of despair throughout, you're not just scared that the dogs might surprise-attack you, you're scared you might not make it. The SH team was really good at making you feel weak and that things probably won't get any better.
Dead Space utilizes more stuff blasting out of walls, lighting, and overbearing noise to scare you and it really does work; I was truly surprised by that. Also the inventive fighting style, some enemies can be easy but only if you rip them apart limb by limb, it is just amazing - though terribly difficult at times. My only real complaint with the game really would be environments looking too similar after a while but really when your game is based on an abandoned, monster-ridden, space station what can you expect?
I did really feel the Doom, Alien, and the Thing feeling from the game. I can somewhat see Resident Evil, if we're talking about Resident Evil 4; I found the enemies similar (once you behead the human enemies).

For those interested I read recently they are developing Doom 4.
