OK, so...are 'contemporary' and 'angst-y' synonyms?

So, a few years into this experiment, I still enjoy watching fit, capable people dance.

But a few things are starting to feel 'tired' to me. One of those is the weekly 'contemporary' number, playing out a pretty detailed tragic story--things like mental illness, depression, death of a serviceman, terminal illness, always, apparently, touching the personal experience of one judge or another.

Does 'contemporary' always have to equate to 'angsty'?

I'm no dance critic, but I've seen a bit of conemporary dance, and some that I've seen has dealt with societal issues, and some has been just plain raucous (Pilobus's closing number comes to mind).

We're now at the point, around our house, when contemporary is introduced, we're like, oh gosh, here comes this week's tear-jerker...

Apparently, dogs are wolves with Williams-Beuren Syndrome.
