I'm going to buck the trend and tell you that I thought it was well done

Very good performances from the main characters. I felt the actress playing Janet must have watched the original movie a thousand times, and set out to be Susan Sarandon mark 2. Not saying that is bad, but... Only real criticism would be with Columbia, nope not feeling it. I found 'Little Nell' as Columbia in the original movie sexy with a touch of Liza from Cabaret, but this girl had none of that.

I thought Brad, Janet and Riff Raff were the strongest. Seeing the Usherette at the beginning was inspired; I thought it was going well but it sort of devolved from the point where they got to the castle.i was confused by using a transgender actor as Frank. It didn't pack the same punch as the original story. Ben Vereem as Dr. Scott was an odd choice also. His nephew, Eddie was white, Caucasian.

Agree with all of that, and thought the same about Eddie and Dr. Scott. The Usherette at the beginning was pretty sexy, but as you say it set the pace for a production which seemed to come down from there.

Geez Archie Bunker, this shouldn't be such an unsolvable riddle in 2016.

Dr. Scott is married to a white person. His spouse's brother/sister is Eddie's father/mother. Thus, Eddie is his nephew.

Possibly, but people in general are basically dumb, and need things spelled out for them in movies or TV, with at least a reference to anything out of the ordinary...
