The ultimate nerd game

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy DEAD SPACE - yet you can't escape the fact it's a mish-mash of many horror\sci-fi movies (and games too, for what matters). I have found these ones:

EVEN HORIZONS: people going to a deserted spaceship - plus many enviroments are clearly inspired by the design of the movie

THE THING: polymorphic entities.

LEVIATHAN: polymorphic mutants and people using futuristic mining tools to fight them

VIRUS: alien\monstruos force recombining body parts to create killing machines.

THE EVIL DEAD: recorded statements warning you the monsters have to be dismembered.

ALIEN\ALIENS: the mother of all modern sci-fi\horror stories - no need to comment.

HARDWARE: damaged automatic doors with a penchant for mutilation.

Anything more?

Which was used in System Shock 2, first.

Shooting with guns is also borrowed from Doom!

Well, let's be fair. All this game is, really, is an updated Pong.

Very very RE4 like in several ways, and no doubt Doom 3, Bioshock/System Shock 2.

I was furious at the stomping on enemies being a blatant ripoff of Super Mario Bros.

Exactly!!!

Actually Major Goof, though it seems you are clearly joking, it's interesting to imagine that if you actually do the homework, you probably could connect any game to pong.

Have fun though, cause I won't be wasting that much time. ;)

This just in: you're an idiot.

if RE5 had only controlled like this game. this is a good game. not the greatest of all time, but. however the controls have amped the survhorror genre and re5 would have been better with them. agree?

Man, I should be able to add to this. Trying to think of a movie with an object or item that induces madness...but I'm drawing a blank. Hate Mondays...

And THAT is where babies come from.

Babylon 5: Thirdspace, the alien artifact. Also, possibly the book Space Vampires upon which the movie Lifeforce was (loosely) based.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968): the Obelisk thing.

To be honest, I believe Event Horizons was inspired by Alien. And Leviathan was basically a rip off of The Thing and Abyss. But good list.
