Lady exploding her own head.

Not really a moment but whenever I see those "pregnant" necromorphs that are attached to the wall they creep me out. Just knowing they were human and living once and the crying out that they do give me the willies. And yeah when that laughing woman towards the end just blows her entire head off. And the audio log of one of the members cutting his limbs himself so that he wouldn't turn although we didn't see them a couple of the logs were disturbing.

Most disturbing moment by far (and you should all remember it without me going into too much detail) is when you're walking down this really dark corridor an can hear this banging sound, and as you go round corner you can see a crew member slowly banging his head on the wall, before crushing his skull on the last attempt as you can get near to him.

reply

Mine was actually on the chapter with the bridge and you ride a lift down to the lowest floor with no sound whatsoever until the end when you hear a very convincing woman's scream *shudder*

reply

To me it was when the last boss grabs Isaac with it's tentacle, if you don't hurt it enough, he kills Isaac in a rather disturbing fashion. I let every monster kill me once to watch the death scenes.

The Regenerator ''Rip fest'' is also pretty disturbing...

You killed it. That isn't disturbing. Suicides were being discussed.

Yeah, that bit really caught me off guard. Super creepy.

reply

I agree about the scream on the lift and various members of the crew that die or kill themselves right in front of you. I also thought that Kenrda's scene with the hive mind was quite nasty, even if I did find myself cursing her several times.

I think the one scene that sticks in my mind more than any other that I can think of at the moment is the audio log of the crew member who cuts his own limbs off so that he won't become like the rest of the crew - just nasty beyond belief and a superb bit of voice acting. It reminded me of some of the audio logs from Doom 3 that the team members left once they crossed into the hell dimension, some of the voice acting from their audio logs was just so well done.

I found some of the grisly end that Isaac came to as a result of my fumbling about were truly nasty, I agree that the death scene at the hands (or should I say tentacles) of the hive mind were especially nasty but the wall tentacles that grab you were pretty nasty as well. I do think that these scenes did help add to the tension and made me even more determined to survive, it seemed to make it just that little bit more personal.

I'd love more content or a sequel for this game as I thought the game mechanics were just terrific, I remain highly sceptical that the forthcoming Wii game seems like anything other than a bad idea.

The introduction of the babies being grown to harvest their body parts and the first reveal of one of the necromorph baby. When I played this I had just become a parent for the first time and it genuinely upset me.

The soldier on the Valor trapped on the ceiling by the gravity panel. He's stuck there, in excruciating pain, but not enough to kill him. You can't get to him, use Kenesis to free him, or even try to put him out of his misery. Your gun just lowers when you pull the trigger.

You know it's only a matter of time before something gets to him. Because regular death won't...

reply

Theory: After you smoke the singularity core and the Valor starts going kaboom, it seems to me that you approach that same spot from the other side of the wreckage, only now the soldier isn't on the ceiling? Possible that he's the one who ran away down the hall?

I might be mis-remembering a bit here. Ideas?

I agree with that. I spent ages trying to figure out how to try and save him, or put him out of his misery, but in the end I had to remember that this is just a game and move on.

reply

I saw a Necromorph crawling into the vents, came out of the ceiling and I dismembered it.And I didn't even turn halfway or suddenly some other necromorph starts attacking me.FFS!

reply

The first time you enter the Valor and that first, freaky, fast-moving soldier goes running away.

My sister was watching me play this game at the time, and she just starts laughing her ass off. I was like, "WTF was that! Whatever it was, it was WAAAY too fast!!!"

yeah that soldier scared the hell out of me too but i think the most disturbing moments to me were:
the first encounter with the necromorphs before you get the plasma cutter when all you can do is run. pulse punding.
2: when you go into the hallway with the toilets and the lights go out, i just stood there waiting to die.
3: i know it's cliched but the final shot of nicole in the end cutscene. everything is so quiet and you think you're safe and suddenly she just comes out of nowhere. there's two things which disturb me most about this though. one, she's contorted before she looks up at you, her head is between her knees and she looks so primal. second, it's not your usual jump scare with a huge orchestra hit but instead it's just piercing screams and horrible sound frequencies. a true masterpeice in final scares.

reply

I agree... I just finished the game and the end totally scared the sh*t out of me. I'm a huge horror movie fan and the end with Nicole was better done/more frightening than any horror movie in recent memory.

reply

My most terrifying moment was when I was buying some ammo and med kits. When I quit and turned around, there was a freakin necromorph about to slice me in half.

...

reply

i open the door to a room and see a bunch of necromorphs coming for me. freaking out, i run back into the previous room and wait it out, just in case the necromorphs forget they saw me. i then hear moaning and growling at the door.. and then the walls..
they started coming into my room through the vents! seeing them chase me like that freaked me out.

reply

I'm going with everytime theres that chick (not sure who it is) is whispering something to herself through out the whole game. creeped me out every time.

reply

The bits that freaked me out the most were any parts where you were in a vacuum. I hated the fact that I couldn't hear any of the necromorphs and then you turn round and ones right behind you. Doesn't make it any better that you are running out of air so I always start to panic and mess up.

reply

Id have to say the area simular to when the lady blows her own head off but shortly right after that when u get that 'invincible' necro chasing you through the rather confusing stacks of bunkbeds that you have to move out fo the way....

given if done right the moments not too tense but first time through was in such a panic i got turned around and cornered, then second time I got him trapped behind the beds just to get sliced in half near the exit door from him jumping from the vent...however 3rd time he got stuck and didnt bother me anymore.

*SPOILER*
Other than that the moment when you see Isaac's girlfriends true fate....combined with the very end.

Playing the game in the military suit gives such a subtle sense of suppiority :)

reply

The scream in the lift - the ride down was so drawn out and long I began to relax and my mind began to wander; then this ungodly scream came from nowhere - I nearly jumped out my skin.

Also the freaky sped up aliens and the big tentacles that appear from nowhere and drag you down the corridor they made me jump each time it happened.

reply

being chased by the regenerator (that son of a bitch) for the first time nearly shat my pants lol.

reply

For me, the most creeping moment was in this mission when you arrive at a mass suicide scene,
with all those corpses and the candle-like lights at the floor.

Suddenly, you hear someone smoothly singing "twinkle twinkle little star"...

Oh man, *that* was disturbing beyond belief.....

reply

Yes, all of chapter 11! You could, at quiet parts, always hear the freaking "Twinkle Twinkle" and it creeped me out.

reply

What was probably most disturbing about that part was that even though the entire level surrounding them was swarming with Necromorphs, not a single one of those bodies had been touched.

Fook.

reply

Excuse me Mgsfan1317. I don't remember a guy sitting in a corner grabbing his leg & crying. What chapter was this in?

My most disturbing moment was in Chapter 1, when you're in the big Maintinence Bay. That whole time, I would turn around to see a monster there, & one was charging at me when I left an elevator. I was waiting to die.

reply

The giggling female doctor torturing her patient then slicing her own throat when Isaac enters.

The graffiti on the walls. "Save us, save us, save me."

reply

The graffiti is a beautiful thing. You need a hi-def TV to read some of them though. I like that "Save us" thing because it repeats itself and the last one, the largest, has "US" crossed out and "ME" scribbled instead.

There are others common ones like "No God, know fear. Know God, no fear." "It's time". "THIS THIS THIS THIS" (with arrows pointing to a drawing of the marker). Written around the signs that say "Sorry, we are FULL" in the medical area, you'll find things like "Bullsh!t" or "NO".

But what kind of makes me think "what the hell" is the note written on the wall. It said something like "If I don't make it out of this, tell Louise and the kids I love them." With all the technology at their disposal, why write a note like that on the WALL of all places? Audio logs, video logs, text logs...

And THAT is where babies come from.

reply

solidsnake1231 it was on one of the last chapters, can't really recall since i played it a few months back.

reply

It was one of soldiers in USS. Valor when it crashes and Issac enters, right?

reply

I think its in "Dead on Arrival". Onboard the Valor, you'll find a man in a miltary suit, holding his own severed leg in his hands. I tried to take it from him, but he wouldn't let get until he died.
