The most disappointing game i've played all year

After the fanboy ecstacy of the first game, with a multitude of characters to choose from, all with 3 extra costumes to liven things up, my expectations were high for ultimate alliance 2. But, i was very disappointed.

Now while i accept that some of the lesser heroes are important to this story (goliath, songbird, penance etc) where are the cult characters, the one who arent exactly mainstream but still popular. Where is Ghost rider, blade, Punisher etc.

And then to disappoint me further, there is only one alternate costume for each character, and even then, you can't unlock it for certain characters. I don't really see why. I understand why you cant play as some characters until the two sides stop fighting each other, but once they have, what stops you from getting their costumers? and why only have one per character??????

That, plus combat which feels almost identical to the last game (average at best) but minus a huge amount of fanboy charm, makes this such a huge let down. All they needed to do was have the same characters from the last game, plus a few more, plus at least 4 costumers like last time.

All in all, if you want a game that's going to excite the comic-book fan in you, get Ultimate alliance 1. Leave this until it gets to a bargain bin, that's all it's worth.

Well blade is on the ps2 version, but yeah the punisher should have been in this one this time around.

Oh well there's always marvel ultimate alliance 3 and yeah i think the 1st one is still better then the 2nd one.

reply

Punisher wasn't in this because THQ owns the rights to produce him in all video games and they wouldn't allow a deal with VV for this game. Thus legally, Punisher cannot be added. Don't you just love law?

Sick of threads "Megan Fox should play this!"

True, and even then, in this kind of game, he wouldve been a kind of *beep* character, not too different from nick fury in MUA1. btw, does anyone know how to unlock the hulk?

You gotta collect five Gamma Regulators to get Hulk.

I agree. I was playing co-op with my friend and we were both disappointed in the small ensamble cast and 1 alternate costume choice, most of which sucked. Im glad that I played his copy before buying the game myself. Very disappointing. Oh, and my friend was dying to play Thor but wasn't aware of how/when he would be unlocked so he entered the cheat code (only to get the last needed asgard rune to unlock same) and after playing an hour as thor we decided to quit for the night only to find out that because of the cheat code he couldn't save the game. So we lost an hours worth of progress. WTF.

Why is it whenever someone says "with all due respect", they really mean "kiss my ass"?

you would not be saying this if you played as deadpool.

Yeah, this game was definately a step down from the original. The only things I liked better were 1) the enviroment designs, so much more detail and work went into the locations. 2) The Fusion powers are visually stunning (Storm/Iceman's ice twister) as well as being very strong and affective in a room full of enemies and bosses battles. 3) Some characters are much strong than the first game (Storm, Wolverine, Thor, Iceman to name a few) 4)Songbird is really powerful, especially her shattered scream attack and playing as the Hulk=EPIC!! But than you have the long, unneeded loading times between levels and switching characters, losing the ability to play certain characters for half the game, a rather lackluster story compared to the first, some really boring/tedious boss battles, not to mention the game is way...too...short!! MUA1 took me a week or so to beat, MUA2 took me 2-3days!!! Of course, you can replay the game as either Anti-Registration or Pro giving you a different side of the game depanding on what you picked the first time, but I'm surprisingly less excited for the second time around than I was for MUA1. Is it just me or did Captain Ameria's sheild throw get weaker? It was like one of the most badass, powerful moves in the first game and now isjust takes off about 25% off damage from enemies even when you add more power to it, sigh. I hope MUA3 is made so they can make an appropriate sequel.

I thought it was a great game. MUA 1 is better is some ways, but the sequel is better in other ways. There definitely should've been more conversations, alternate costumes, and more characters to choose from in MUA2.

I thought it was cool how they followed the marvel continuity (sort of) throughout the story. It didn't seem as epic as the first one because you didn't go into hell or outer space, you pretty much stayed in the city streets with the exception of the Negative zone or the later levels.

They also let you choose your own adventure instead of having the big comic book finale that changes depending on what you did during the game. Not sure which is better.

MUA2 moves a lot faster than the first one, and the background features are much more developed in 2. I'm wondering if MUA will seem extremely slow and boring when I go back and play it now.

Either way, I thought this was a really fun game, even if there are aspects of it that aren't as good as the original.

I just started the game yesterday. I think the graphics, fighting moves, and some powers are better in the second game.

But so far, I think the first game has a better story, with better RPG elements, and an overall more emersive feel into the world of Marvel. The first game felt like the ULTIMATE alliance. From what I've heard, everyone will just split up in this game.

The first game was far better in terms of story. It was really epic and spanning. This one was more controlled although still fun. There aren't as much goodies as in the first one.

Naveen: Yeah you've done it! For me!
Dr. Facilier: Oh I've done it!

The marketing choice to make it a sequel is probably one that looks bad in hindsight. The first featured a storyline that threatened all of reality. It in scope felt dire. The second one only really got there at the end in a less popular story choice.

Had they of called this thing something like "Marvel Civil War" instead of associating it with the first MUA, it might have stood on it's own better. Because as a sequel, a lot of people didn't like it anywhere near as much. In it's own vacuum however I think it may stand up better.

Yes, I enjoyed the first game more as well. This one's story just did not work for me, the last game just seemed to have more variety to it. I was also disappointed that Galactus had nothing to do with this game despite him swearing revenge. Now that would have been one heck of an epic boss battle, something neither of the alliance games have had or the legends games for that matter.

I found it MUCH better than the first game. The first game bored me, this was fun.
