Anne and April

One thing that I never understood about the show, how did Anne and April end up becoming friends? Maybe I missed an episode but April went from actually hating her, not her normal act like she dislikes the person, to having an emotional good bye.

It also struck me as weird that Anne would ever be okay with April dating Andy.

Did I miss something?

Actually, they sort of bonded in the episode where April wanted Ann to write her a recommendation for veterinary school and Ann revealed to April that she was stressed after asking Chris to be the father of her baby & he hadn't given her an answer yet, to which April was apparently sympathetic. One could argue that any dislike between them gradually subsided & they grew on each other as April saw that neither Andy nor Ann had feelings for the other, fixed Ann up with Tom, and expressed that she thought Ann and Chris are good together while Ann repeatedly tried to befriend April.

Yeah, it's been a while but: wasn't there a latter season episode where Ann and a reluctant April both sang along to Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time", because as April admitted: the song was awesome???

Same episode as when April asked for the recommendation. Anne was trying to force April to be her friend, which included singing the song. After she confided about stressing out, April joined in.

They had little bonding moments throughout to the show, and it got to the point where April's hatred of Ann was more of a joke.

I thought Ann bonded with April when Ann was trying to make friends with both April and Ron ("Born an Raised" episode). Through the entire episode she was trying her best, but they just kept ignoring her. Except at the end where she just stop trying and started to talk about all the horrible things she has to deal with in the emergency room (the gross stuff). Ron and April took an immediate intense interest in the gory details and Ann earned the respect and friendship of both Ron and April.

I'm guessing they wanted us to think that April is the kind of person who will never admit to liking someone, so it wasn't that she suddenly changed her mind, it was that she prefers talking about how much she hates people even if it's not always the truth. And there was a scene or two where Ann complained about how she dated Andy when he was immature and basically taught him to grow up, and then April gets the rewards of her hard work. But I don't think Ann made a huge fuss about April dating him because Ann and April weren't friends when it started happening, April was just the coworker of her new friend Leslie so what was she really gonna do?

Right, I'm not as surprised about April acting slow to warm up. But it just didn't ring true that Anne would care enough to try winning April over, and then telling her she loves her before leaving.

Anne was supposed to be the only "grounded" person in the show that everyone played off of. It isn't super important, but it just seemed far fetched to me, without something big having happened.

April started out as a cold, distant person and throughout the series the writers gradually built her into a person with real feelings who the viewers wanted to see excel and become a true friend to everyone else. Becoming friends with Anne showed that deep down she really was a nice person.
