The Jerry bullying ruins this show

I love Parks and Rec. Every episode makes me laugh out loud.

But the constant bullying of Jerry for no reason really ticks me off. I can't believe the writers thought it would be funny. I just watched the episode where they designed a mural and Jerry's was amazing but everyone made fun of him. What the heck? Who thought that would be a good idea? Not only does it make me feel bad for Jerry but it makes me hate the characters for being such d-bags.

I know it's been said before but I just wanted to reiterate. I think that's the biggest mistake the writers of this show made. It truly ruins some episodes for me.

Yeah, it really stops the comedy dead in it's tracks when they do that. There are slight occasions when it gives me a smile, but generally it's just mean. I try to remember the episode where he says that the joke is on them because in two years he'll retire with full pension, to a nice destination with his wife and enjoy the rest of his life, while they'll still be stuck in a job that the majority of them hate.

I can't believe we're just gonna casually watch someone get murdered, what is this, Detroit?

reply

He pretty much has the best life out of everyone on the show. He is extremely happy with his wife and he loves his daughters. So I think he has the last laugh definitely.

reply

I agree. It wouldn't be as bad if there were any moments where they were nicer, but it's constant, and gets annoying quickly. Does anyone actually still get a laugh from it, even after so many episodes? Whatever, can't change it now... still love the show though

Here is why their "bullying" is not as bad as one might think. It's because he is usually ok with it. He often finds a way to laugh at it himself. Sure I've felt for him and thought that they were flat out mean to him but it is a burden that only he can bear. He has the last laugh because of his very happy home life.

He's taking the knife out of the Cheese!
Do you think he wants some cheese?

Especially in an era where bullying is truly an insidious phenomenon (thanks to the internet), so this generation is already witnessing the worst incarnation of this human condition.

reply

Bullying didn't start with the internet. Just like people were getting murdered long before video games.

reply

I liked some of the jokes at his expense but a lot of it was just dickish (particularly when Tom or Leslie was involved). They should have just written him out of the show for good once he got pension because the bit was so tired by the end of the series.

The threads about the Jerry bullying are ruing this forum. We really only need one.

reply

When is everybody gonna stop being so butthurt by everything? Geez.

"Well that ship has sailed"

reply

The OP just wants everyone to know what a great human he is. Won't even laugh at the bullying of a fictional character. Brave. He's the real hero.

reply

Butt hurt is not a word, asshat. Grow up, meathead.

And the bullying wss *beep*

reply

I have to agree. I really liked his character and I was happy when Ben admitted that he liked him, but then it seemed like they forgot all about that when Season 7 started. I just finished watching The Office again and I always compare Toby to Gary (Jerry, Terry, Larry, etc.), but I realized that they are way worse to him on Parks & Rec than the characters on The Office are to Toby. I never once laughed at them being mean to him. It actually made me dislike everyone else slightly because of it.

reply

The Toby "bullying" is hilarious though. Michael is the only one who really does it because he's just an idiot...but some of the best quotes come from Toby hating like "why are you the way you are...?" and "Oh God no! NOOO!"

Jerry bullying just doesn't come off as funny.

Also sorry for posting another thread like this. Deal with it.

To YOU, it's not funny. To others, it is. Humor is subjective. You can't just state, as fact, that it's funny on The Office, but it's not funny on Parks & Rec.

What's going on? What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here...

reply

And others are morons who have no sense of humor. So... DEAL WITH IT!

reply

The real problem is that the jokes they used to make fun of him are NOT FUNNY, at all. Besides it really feels out of character for some of them
