I know you see this kind of threads all the time around IMDB but I just have to say it: I don't understand what makes this one so popular.

It has pretty much none content other than awesome art, music and action. Other than that, it's just empty no-brainer with no emotion. Revenge stories should have atleast some sort of emotion to it but I can't feel it.

Well, I guess that's the standards of good cinema today: cool & hip (and hop).

it has tons of emotion, are you kidding me? When that little kid looks up at afro after he has killed his "father" was pretty powerful. And after everything Siou and Gino had done through the whole thing at the end they redeem themselves was pretty powerful as well.

If anything AS is underrated.

It was pretty shallowly emotional moment with the kid. You barely even knew the kid, growing none affection towards him. It would make a difference if the relationship between the kid and the father was built up with touching story, but now it was just another anonymous kill for afro.

They didn't show any build up between the father and son because for most people, seeing a kid watching his dad getting killed is emotional enough. More of a backstory with the Afro and his father isn't necessary.

beside from its art (don't most anime have good art) it had nothing good about it

I actually liked it. I will admit it wasn't as good as the show, but it still was an enjoyable film.
