Ninja Ninja Question?

so whats the deal with ninja ninja? is he like a spirit that haunts afro or is he real? i thought nobody else could see him or hear him but then he gets shot in the chest by a dart?

Personally I have never been really sure about Ninja Ninja. In the original series I thought he was an actual sidekick, but in this movie, it seemed like he was just the alter-ego of Afro, and not really visible to anyone else. NN doesn't interact with anyone else at all. No one reacts to him like he's there at all. The fact that he got shot in the heart with a dart didn't convince me at all that he was "real;" it was like he took a hit as Afro was getting injured, because basically he goes through whatever Afro does (because he IS him).

I feel that whatever happens to Afro happens to NN because NN is the embodiment of Afro's inner thoughts. Like when they're walking through the desert, NN is saying he's not gonna make it, he's exhausted, and Afro just keeps walking. When Afro has the "final showdown," NN gets the dart, and even though it looks literal, I still think it was only because that was going through Afro's mind - "am I going to die?" Afro occasionally tells NN to "just shut up" but notice he never touches him, or turns to him directly. Whenever Afro is smoking, so is NN. Ninja Ninja mirrors everything Afro does. NN has white hair & is fun-loving & outgoing, all the things opposite of Afro - quiet, "boring" (as NN puts it), too serious. I don't think others can see NN because think about when Afro is sitting at the restaurant with Shichogoro ~ NN says out loud, "THAT'S THE GUY! It's too bad you have to kill him, he seems pretty cool!" Doesn't it seem like Shichogoro would have reacted to that? Instead he continues talking, even though Afro doesn't speak at all, but comes to the conclusion on his own that Afro is after the #2 headband. When Afro comes up against his enemies, NN says stuff like, "are you just gonna walk right into every trap laid out for you?!" and "that's not really your father, don't be stupid!!" Because Afro barely speaks or shows any emotion, I think it's integral that NN express all those thoughts & feelings FOR him or else we wouldn't have any clue what was going on in Afro's mind at all.

Well...I'm still not 100% sure myself. LOL...hopefully someone else will shed some light on it as well. I'm more inclined to believe that Ninja Ninja is not real, just an embodiment of Afro's thoughts & feelings, than an actual physical guy following him around, mainly like I already said, no one else acknowledges his presence whatsoever...did they? I watched it 3x now but maybe I missed something.

Actually Kirby, I disagree. In one scene when AS is walking along the mountainside, NN is carrying Afros sword. Before Afro goes to battle, NN runs up to Afro and says "Here, you might need this." He then physically gives the sword to Afro.

Also when NN got hit in the chest with the dart and was unconscious, Afro was away doing battle with the cyborgs. I will agree that its not clearly defined as to who N really is. I was leaning more towards an actual person. BUT then he gets sliced up by Gino.

Its Jinno with a J not G! And Jinno later became Kuma the bear.

saying "Kuma the bear" is a little redundant, since Kuma means bear.

Ninja ninja is clearly just a delusion and an element to attempt to keep the viewer entertained in a painfully boring show. "physically" handing him the sword is again just a representation that afro is going to have to fight again, though its lost on the viewer because all we've ever seen him do is fight - he has no character.
He's just the second personality of afro and anything he says or does is for either comedic value, or cheap representation of plot they don't want to develop.

Kuma is "titled" also so implying or stating the bear outright is only stating the obvious yet introducing said character as the bear. so technically no i'm not being redundant.

Putting 'Kuma' blank without an explanation would draw a question of whats a Kuma? from those that don't know that already, you dig?

Its not being redundant if one is doing so to merely explain it to the; uninitiated! I put Kuma the bear, down to explain it to those that don't know what Kuma meant, so don't get smart with me i know what Kuma means obviously while other might not know of any supposed translations of what kuma really means. And 'Ninja ninja' is Afro's delusional subconscious who voices the opinions he himself would if he wasn't; Afro Samurai the disciplined warrior with a purpose etc. That hardly a boring show but a clever one, showing you different sides of a person's personality with many layers to it. just cos you don't get it at all, don't go calling it boring chief?

He's just the second personality of afro and anything he says or does is for either comedic value, or cheap representation of plot they don't want to develop.

Wrong if anything that shows how smart they are in showing the Samurai warrior Afro has his internal mental battles going on as well as physical ones on the outside. Doesn't such a thing lead to many subplots as well then? Even the antagonist character Justice, makes a reference to Afro seeing a figment of his imagination as the Number Two (until he defeated Justice) in the final chapter of the first film. Also implying somewhat that whoever is Number Two could also be cursed in a sense, into seeing their subconscious personality take shape of some sort and appear to only them while wearing the Number Two headband!

The show is obviously alot more deeper than your trying giving it credit for so don't be so negative about it all, and try to look at it again without judging it too harshly.
