How was it that everyone was challenging Afro in the beginning? (When he was still number 1) When he was on the dock fishing it seemed those two swordsman were not the number 2. Seemed like everyone was challenging him even if they were not the number 2.

Excuse my ignorance if I just missed something here

After Afro defeated Justice, he chose to disregard his destiny as # 1. He was not living on the mountain or defending his title. He was just a guy. Unfortunately he made vast amounts of enemies during his blood-soaked quest to become # 1, so he had to continue to fight for his life, if not his status.
