Unredeemable

Who writes this thinking you can have your main character do whatever he wants and have no emotion at all and have people still like him? Granted, there have been emotionless killers in movies who weree likable (Tom Cruise in Collateral and many many others) but come on, Afro kills a little kid's caretaker, someone who didnt even want to fight, in front of the kid, who begins to cry. So Afro walks off and cut to...... Ninja cracking jokes and Afro smoking a joint.

Dude just doesn't care at all about anything (except his father but really, do any of us give a crap?) so why should I care about him. Makes people not care about the ending.

I hear ya, but he's only doing it to avenge his father. Gotta do whatever it takes.

Although I think I'd draw the line about 1000 killings earlier

Most unlikable character in a anime I've ever seen, i would never of bothered to watch this series if i knew Afro is a villain with zero remorse or no interest in seeking redemption

I knew he was a total *beep* when he was just watching his dojo mates get butchered and just stood and watched with a dumb expression on his face, I can understand his drive for revenge, but it's a whole another thing when you tread on innocent people in pursuit of your goal, once that has happened the line between good guy to bad guy has been crossed.

I was as eager as Sio to see Afro brought to justice for his actions, but was treated to nothing but disappointment once he got away with his crimes again.

To m, he's no different than Kiddo in "Kill Bill", yet everyone loves her. I wanted to see her killed.

Anyway, I agree, Afro isn't likeable. I rooted for Sio, Jino and the others. They seem the good guys. Afro is a villain. He's the main character, but that makes him no less the villain.

Clearly you haven't seen School Days.

I realize this thread is a 100 years old, but still... Anyway, I really don't watch movies with the pretext that I have to really care about the main character. Seriously, how boring would it be if every movie had the exact same type of hero who fights for justice and friendship and peace and always overcomes all odds and defeats evil in the end… haven’t you seen a billion of those characters already?

I like the fact that there is variation. I like the fact that certain movies have the typical “good guy” as the main character, whereas other movies have an “anti-hero” as the main character, someone who is so driven by their own goals that they don’t care what they do to get there. I also like that there are several other types of characters in several other types of movies that mix it up a bit.

I mean, I started to watch Bleach (I’ve since stopped) and I would say that at least once per episode, the main lead would talk about his friends, and how he can’t lose because he is fighting to protect them bla bla. Yeah ok, it was fine the first five times. But after hearing the same phrase for 30+ episodes (and mind you, I believe there are close to 200 episodes) I couldn’t take that guy any more. I was seriously ready to punch a hole through my screen just to bash his face in. And that was just one character in one show. Imagine now if ALL main characters in ALL shows go around being good guys and caring for people the same way. Yawn.

Bleach is a shonen anime directed to young teenagers and kids what do you expect and like the other guy said Afro has no personality. You want characters with depth who are basically villains watch black lagoon.
