What was so special about Junie

I liked the film, don't get me wrong. Very indie/artsy.
But what I don't get, was why the teacher was so obsessed with her.
I mean, she hardly spoke in class. She just kind of sat there.
In reference to the title, was it supposed to be that she's so beautiful that men fall in love with her solely on her appearance?
She is pretty but mediocre at the very least, no offense. Call me old fashioned but I think falling in love based on looks is sketchy and shallow.
At least Otto got to know her personality because they hung around the same group of friends and spent time together, so I can see why he might have been smitten. The teacher on the other hand, barely knew her at all...

She's pale and mysterious but I agree with you, she's not that pretty and interesting. I'm still wondering what she's got that's different from the other girls in the movie. If someone can give us the answer... thanks!

Well let me say this: I'd never heard of this film before and the reason I decided to watch it was because I saw the poster here on IMDb and I thought the girl looked very special. And when I watched the film I ended up falling for Lea Seydoux. She reminds me of a young Anna Karina, maybe not as pretty, but there's definitely something special about her. She's not dressed in any unusual clothes, barely has any makeup on in the film, and yet when you see her in the room with the rest of her classmates for some reason she stands out and you can't take your eyes off of her. At least that's how I felt watching the film and I don't think it would've been the same experience with a different actress.

In light of the popularity that Léa Seydoux presently enjoys, I'd say that many people find her special. I know I did the moment I saw her in Midnight in Paris. She posseses great charisma and personal magnetism.

Nothing.

*** Spoilers ahead ***

She wasn't special because the script has many failures. Clearly the writer thinks she was. But he failed to show us how special she was and why. Then other characters act like she's so special and we don't get why.
Was she torn between Otto and her teacher? I dare to say there is nothing in her actions showing us that. But every character acts as if she was.
The teacher obsess with her but doesn't make a move. She realizes he is after her, and she does nothing about it. Otto is the only one doing something, and he does because of something that never happened.
