weird similarities to the wrestler - also gets same oscar nominations

best actor
best supporting actress
best original song.

kind of funny - a little strange too.

Leo was dreaming of America in Titanic and loved Rose the whole time!

Actually, I thought it was even more similar to "Tender Mercies" (starring Robert Duvall). It's also about a country singer who hits rock bottom.

Their structures are very different, however. "Crazy Heart" focuses on the descent, while "Tender Mercies" focuses on the struggles of climbing back up.

Both are excellent films.

There are definitely some strong similarities. Former star entertainers now older and out of the big time spotlights but still entertaining the small crowds with old gimmicks/songs. Financially strapped, estranged from family, inevitably self destructive due to certain dependencies and addictions.

The key difference I thought was that Crazy Heart wasn't nearly as dark and depressing as a film and there was a more significant resolution in CH. I mean it could still be a downer at times, feeling for Bad Blake's situation, but not nearly as bad as in the Wrestler. Overall, I enjoyed Crazy Heart more and felt it was a better done film. But the Wrestler was still a decent film.

true, but The Wrestler was a much more compelling film.

The Wrestler didn't get Best Song, didn't even get nominated. It's messed up because it should have won that year.

reply

Because it was pretty much a "low life" film, sleazy trashy, Not even close to comparing to Crazy heart!

reply

NOT! They are not even in the same league, Jeff bridges- Mickey Rourke???

I liked the Wrestler quite a bit, much more than Crazy Heart. and I think it's unfair to call The Wrestler a "sleazy" or "trashy" film.
