Any other movies about fat middle aged alcoholic deadbeat dads?

"Tender Mercies" with Robert Duvall. Very similar plot to "Crazy Heart" (old country singer hits rock bottom), but a very different structure.

Written by Horton Foote, who wrote the screenplay for "To Kill a Mockingbird".

I didn't watch it but Kevin Costner played up a washed up middle aged baseball player in "The Upside of Anger". He hits on his neighbor who is a middle aged bitter woman with two daughters. It got good reviews.

I don't think that's a common one, or at least when it is, it's usually done for humor a la The Bad News Bears. what people have pointed out is the wasted past prime guy looking for redemption, or especially the wasted musician trying to balance his life genre are both full of examples.

Dennis Hopper's Out of the Blue
