Both won an oscar for Best Actor, Robert Duvall & Jeff Bridges respectively. Crazy Heart had numerous screen viewings, Tender Mercies had limited viewing on screen and was brought back for viewing on Cable TV.....

I choose option #3, Clint Eastwood's Honkytonk Man, which pre-dated both. :)
shareI like Honkytonk Man, it's one of my favorites. However I don't see it as a #3. Red Stovall was on a one way path to self destruction. He was never trying to dig himself out of the pit he was in. He just had some really interesting partners along the way.
