Reminded me of the Wrestler but the Wrestler had more substance

IMO, The films are in the same catagory but the Wrestler was much better.
Crazy Heart was a self serving film for Bridges, it should have been called I'm Jeff Bridges Dammit!

Did anyone LOL at Duval's expression when he finds Bridges in the bathroom, priceless.

"It's pronounced,Bouquet!"

Well, that's just like your opinion, man.

You killed me with that one.

reply

Totally agree. The Wrestler was still depressing but it was way better than this.

Agree, In fact I jammmed in watching it this past weekend while my wife was straightening up after New Years. She asked me about it and I said Bridges was good but the story has been done 100 times and I described it... broken down singer, drunk multiple addictions, self desructive, estranged child, pick up romance, she said: "It sounds like The Wrestler!"

i thought jeff bridges was excellent but the movie was pants

I thought the same thing lol. I was like Crazy Heart is 2009's The Wrestler. It really is. It's not a bad film. Jeff Bridges was great and so was the rest of the cast (don't see enough of Colin Farrell/Tommy Sweet, though). I thought The Wrestler was more heart-breaking, emotional, dramatic, entertaining, etc. Although "The Weary Kind" really is one helluva song. I've listened to it over and over again.

Here's my qualm: If Jeff Bridges's performance was worthy to win the Best Actor Oscar, then Mickey Rourke should've went home with one the year before. He outdid Sean Penn in every way possible. Sean Penn is good, but that was Rourke's to win.

yeah, I also felt it was 'slightly' overrated and really predictable. To watch movies about artists having drug/alcohol problems plus effed up relations I'd rather recommend "factotum" or even "Walk the line". This one - disappointing.

Agreed. It's a decent film, but not "OMG you need to see this film RIGHT NOW!" It was above average at best. Phoenix's performance in Walk the Line was far superior, in my opinion. But maybe the Academy had too big of a boner for Hoffman's impersonation of Truman Capote, or compared him to Foxx' performance in Ray and he just looked subpar in comparison. Gotta give props to Foxx, though. He goes from being a goofy below-average comedian to a talented Oscar-winning actor. Props, man.

I would go see a film called "I'm Jeff Bridges Dammit!" in a heartbeat. :)

Yes the similarities are obvious and Wrestler is better (Mickey deserved an Oscar) but this is also good

reply

OMG! the wrestler, Yeah right, Mickey Rourke compared to Jeff Bridges? that's a joke. Not only that but this movie is so much classier, everything about it, In all aspects it is way above the wrestler. That movie was trashy, sleazy and not even on the same level as Crazy Heart.

I recently have watched both films and like them both.

Exactly my opinion. The movies are similar. They share the same theme and story, but this one takes place in country music industry, as opposed to the wrestling industry.

"The Wrestler" is a better film, in fact I think its a masterpiece. Its more compelling and emotional. Its an amazing movie.

But "Crazy Heart" have better actors though. Bridges were amazing, Rourke was just OK.

I feel like people in this thread are a little bitter because Jeff Bridges won the oscar and Mickey Rourke didn't. They basically have the same story, a story which has been told a lot of times, but what makes Crazy Heart to me is Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaals performance. This guy was so pathetic I didn't know if I should laugh or cry at the same time. It almost hurt me physically to watch him run himself into the ground. That's what made this movie a 10 instead of an 8. I don't share the "Hey I'm Jeef Bridges" sentiment at all, unless Jeff Bridges really is an alcoholic. I think it's just his performance that makes it seem like he is that guy, not the other way 'round.
I don't remember the Wrestler perfectly, I like both movies, but I'd rather watch Crazy Heart again because to me it was a lot more relatable and more real (I also don't care about wrestling at all).

I agree. With The Wrestler I felt bad for Randy because he was trying so hard to rebuild his life. But here I felt bad for Blake because he seemed to be trying so hard to ruin it. Not intentionally, of course, but he didn't care enough to stop his life from spiralling out of control. One you root and hope for, one you want so badly to help but can't. It was two different kinds of depressing, and I think the fact that each character was redeemed differently in the end proves that. And I also agree with you about Bridges' performance. I think it was that good that people actually think he was playing himself. I don't doubt that some parts of the character were him; some of the moments in the movie were so powerful and raw you just couldn't fake it. But I honestly believe he put his heart and soul into this role. He exposed a side of himself that no-one had seen before, and that's why he deserved that Oscar. I actually got more of that "I'm --- dammit" vibe in The Wrestler, to be honest. I think Mickey Rourke was being Mickey Rourke there more than Jeff Bridges was being Jeff Bridges here.

I don't give a flying *beep* about actors winning an Oscar much like the same about Grammy's... Both films were great! And i'm not seeing up here from you smart Film types about the Film 'Black Swan'.
