Reporters talking about Jill Roberts

Am I missing something ?. Why were the reporters at the very end calling Jill the sole survivor and hero ? Is it because they didn't yet know what had just gone down in the hospital ?

Also did anyone else think at one stage that the dumb female cop was going to be at least one of a pear of killers ? I think you were meant to be tricked into thinking that because no one would think that she could be so useless without having more going on. But she was, go figure !
