I loved the first to no end and actually liked the 2nd one due to its likeable characters but.. I just keep hearing awful things about this one and the next 2 movies. I feel like I still want to watch it, because as a horror movie lover, I like to fully embrace a franchise even if only the first one was good but, is it worth taking the time? It it crappy good, or just crappy?

I think it depends on a couple things. First off, this IS a direct to video, super low budget slasher, meaning you'll have weak effects and some dodgy acting (neither of which bugged me too much), so if you can't handle that, definitely not.
If those don't, it also comes down to if you like the idea of Prisoners vs. Cannibals or would prefer dumb college kids. I thought the prisoners aspect was cool, and the prisoners themselves were kinda interesting/entertaining, so I was able to have fun with it (despite it not being a great movie)

I liked it, but I never saw 1 or 2 LOL. I went in not expecting much, got drunk and ate pizza while watching it, good death scenes (bad CG), nice bewbs early on, macho prisoners with weapons and lost cash, a fun 90 minute gore flick. Just don't expect good writing or even acting per se.

Some good bits of gore and I quite liked it even though some of the acting really was cringeworthy - pizza , beer and a joint and you are good to go!
Dont expect much and you wont be disappointed - 6/10
Loved the surprise ending!
So many haters it wasnt that bad a movie I have seen far far worse.
