Was there a religious message in this movie?

Stacy Keach's speech to Dwight to convince him to hand over his pistol, Marla trying to appeal to the border patrol officer based on the fact that he was wearing a crucifix (which the camera man made sure to zoom onto)... etc

I'm not sure why, but I just had a feeling that some point about God was being made. Am I reading too much into this movie? Or, were the writers and directors hoping that God would intervene and destroy the set and collect the insurance... who knows....

I don't think it was meant to be a "religious" movie. In times of extreme stress like this people do tend to turn towards whatever god they know (or are most familiar with) so it is right in character for this to appear in this movie as it did and would find it unusual if there weren't any. Plus if you saw a crucifix or other religious symbol around the neck or on the desk or wall of the person you were trying to convince of something, wouldn't it make sense to use that to your advantage? I am more surprised there weren't more references to religion in a movie of this type.

In fact I would tend to say there is not an overt religious message in this movie as there would be considerably more references to god if it were.

I am a religious person. The only religious message I found in this film was to thank G-d that there was only two parts to it.

Yes there was reglious. In that moive. In part two after the past life. Me. Got. Hit. And killed by a.Van. in part. One. In the. Moive in. My past life. Because i remember being in it. In my past. Life. I was christopher lloyd and that. The. Truth.
