sharei really don't know but i think it's like the same way angelina jolie directed that world war 2 movie. she's shown a bunch of ideas to be used for the film and picks and chooses what she wants, the studio probably supplies her with everything she needs, everything is built for her, the sets, the costumes, the actors are all ready for her before she arrives, a few filmmaking specialists are around to take care of everything and give her suggestions etc.. and she just walks onto the set early in the morning and drinks her coffee and says action and cut. she's not like an early sam raimi completely involved with every little task.
shareThat’s my guess too, at least from watching the other documentary about herself that she (ugh) co directed and co produced. She basically goes to the professionals and says something like “I want something pretty.” Then they actually come up with the entire design.
