What happened to Helen?

Also, who's funeral did they show briefly? It seemed that I saw what was meant to signify someone being cremated; but did not see name plate as in earlier, similar scenes.

reply

I haven't watched the third installment yet, but after watching the second film (ITYOOL 1980), it seems that Helen is just phased out of the action. She aborted the child she conceived with Peter Hunter and then, when he was relieved of the case, she was presumably reassigned elsewhere.
As for the funeral: if you're referring to the cremation which takes place about 25 minutes before the end of the film, that was the funeral and cremation of Tommy Douglas and his daughter. The funeral at the end of the film seems to be that of Peter Hunter, as his wife is seen weeping and is escorted away by the Reverend Martin Laws.

Gracias, Sr. "Clamberto"!

but was Helen in on the whole thing with the bad cops? I was wondering if she helped set up the blackmail photos of her and Peter

reply

There doesn't seem to be any reason to suspect that Helen was colluding with the corrupt cops. The impression I got was that the pictures were taken by some of those officers on the force who wanted to intimidate Peter Hunter. The film didn't go into much depth about Helen's history, but to my eyes she was presented as one of the few police officers (in this film) with integrity and a commitment to justice, notwithstanding the fact that she did become romantically entangled with and impregnated by her married superior.

reply

I just finished watching the second one myself as well (and haven't seen the third yet). I've loved them both so far. Spoilers ahead- What about the possibility of the Ripper's final murder case being Helen? Perhaps I missed the significance behind that part, but do we see Helen after his gruesome depiction of one final killing? She would have been going to that area to see Martin Laws. The killer said the last lady wasn't a prostitute and was very aggressive and combative. Perhaps it was her distressed after the realization there was a way to be with Hunter, but she destroyed those chances when aborting the child? So she could have been drunk / depressed / angry in that area? It is rather late here and perhaps I missed something.

reply

Good question, Gregfades. The killer described one final victim, but it was not revealed who that was. Maybe it will be tied in up the third film?

reply

Funeral was ex-cop and daughter.

I also, was wondering about Helen; maybe just sent back South.

reply

Is it not Helen at Hunter's graveside at the end, after which she drives off with Laws?

"Duck, I says..."

reply

I was wondering that myself while watching it, but no, Martin Laws clearly addresses her as "Mrs. Hunter."

reply

Yes, I had second thoughts about that and took a second look. It is Laws' wife. Presumably Helen realized he was doomed and just kept her head down.

That, and also she realized she struck out. The way they looked at each other when they were passing said it all. "Over and out."
