I REALLY liked this movie.. except for.. (spoilers)

The ending. I'm personally very, very sick of every movie these days needing a twist at the end. Why can't it just be a good, old fashion ghost movie? It's so cliche, predictable, and almost disappointing these days that everything ends with 'it was all a dream' or 'this person is actually crazy/dead/the killer.'

Aside from that though, I throughly enjoyed this movie.

they just thought claire was the killer but it wasnt her it was the ghost.

There wasn't a twist at the end what are you talking about? The detective thought Claire went physco and killed everyone because her finger prints were on all the so called "weapons" they found. In actuality she did nothing.

reply

Are you being serious or not? If you are, I didn't see a single thing pointing towards the idea that the ghost just feng shuied everything to make it look like she did it..

reply

How about at the end when the couple go back to the house and the ghost shuts down all the windows and doors and you hear their screams? Meanwhile Clare is stuck in a psychiatric ward rocking backwards and forwards and repeating, "I didn't do it."

That's a fair bit of pointing for me.

reply

Couldn't that part have been in Claire's mind too? In her mind, if someone else dies while she's locked up it proves she didn't do it & the ghost is still there.

reply

I thought it was pretty obvious that Claire was not actually the killer. Unlike most of you, however, I liked the "twist" better, mostly because I've grown tired of ghost movies.

Still an okay movie, sometimes very well done (and sometimes not).

I much, much prefer the ending in which it turns out to be Claire the psycho killer, as described by the detective. Prior to that ending, the movie had WAY too many plot holes and was falling apart for me. The "twist" filled in so many plot holes, that it turned a 3/10 rating to a 6/10 rating for me.

how come the bodies found by the police didn't match the way we saw them get killed. the black guy was the most obvious, he had a sword in his back instead of his head getting smashed.

aside from that i do hate twist endings. or movies that just rely on revealing something in the end. it's cheap and a Gotcha at the very end doesn't retroactively make the more better. i always refer to romeo and juliet, the play begins by telling you the the young lovers in the story die in the end. there is no surprise ending, no twist, just a good story.

i specially hate m night shamallamalyayann, because that's all he knows.

With how they did the ending, it seems very ambiguous to me on whether it was the ghost or the girl. Otherwise I don't see the need to add the last scene in the house. It's almost like they don't want you to know for sure so they leave clues to point in both directions. That scene did not play at all like a dream of hers (in my mind).

I just wanted to update this as I just read another post. It appears that the woman visiting the house at the end (last scene) is the girl who walked in on the murders. She is the one who looked into the pantry and saw Claire's eye through the peep hole. In the beginning of the film we assume the girl on the floor is Claire, but we later find out she was hiding in the pantry. This would imply Claire lived with Ms. DeGrotte (sp?) along with the other kids who were murdered. Just a point of interest.

To each their own...opinion

American Psycho

About your update: Not that it appears, this was totally obvious. Buit it's true that we were misguided into thinking the little girl who walked in on the murders was Claire. And yes of course she was one of the foster children that the old hag took in, we see it clearly in the movie.

I didn't think the ending was ambiguous at all! The ending with the girl & her boyfriend indicated that it was really evil all along, not Claire.

Why would Claire be hallucinating 2 strangers in the house anyway?

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

reply

The ending makes it clear it's not all in Claire's head and that the story of the detective is wrong.

The ending was bad. I think it was too cliched too...
I'd rather have seen someone besides the generic main girl live, probably Rudy (the jock guy) or Ariel (the blond bitch)! <3
