Eddie at very end (Spoilers)

Yes. In part 3 when someone's investigating the murders once again, the investigator tries to find Eddy. He's told Eddy died in a car crash in 1974 (how Part 1 ends).

In the book it ends with.

"Waiting for the blue lights.
Thinking, ninety miles an hour."

But it is never stated what actually happened to him in next three books, several characters such as Jack Whitehead and Kathryn Williams are clearly haunted by his actions in 1974, also interesting is in 1974 Eddie drives a Viva and spends a lot of time at a hotel called the Redbeck and in 1983 John Piggott sees an old Viva with a man behind the wheel several times throughout the story parked in the Redbeck car park watching Eddie's old room at the hotel, is that meant to imply that Eddie is still around?
