Andrew Garfield

Does anyone else think he ruins this movie? I mean, I saw him in Boy A before seeing this and he has the same personality, or lack thereof. This guy has zero charisma and should not have been cast in this role. Even the people who cut the movie together must agree, because they seem to make it a point to keep him off screen. He looks like a kid playing dress up, and the way he mumbles his lines with no tone or inflection annoys the hell out of me. It would have been one thing if his character is supposed to act that way but Andrew played this same character in Boy A! No acting is being done! This is how Andrew Garfield is in real life!

Oh yeah, I'm only 25 minutes into the movie.

Having seen Boy A (and basically his entire filmography) I have to disagree completely. I actually found his charisma and talent to be the only thing that kept me watching. I was actually marveling 25 minutes in at how he comes across so much more masculine and confident in this versus ALL his other roles, which I found quite refreshing. Sometimes I think he deserves an Oscar for his facial expressions alone, much less his usual flawless delivery...but I digress.

I'll give the occasional mumbling, but for me that's more British films in general than Andrew. He doesn't tend to mumble when he's speaking without the British accent.

And from what I've seen in interviews/behind the scenes, he's actually quite light-hearted/goofy in real life. He sang the Bed Intruder song during an ABC Never Let Me Go interview for crying out loud.

Alas, this is but my opinion, and I respect yours. To each their own. That's the wonderful thing about film - so subjective.

Could not agree less with the OP. Garfield is sensational in the trilogy. Hugely charismatic, funny, charming, clueless, a danger to himself, but always compelling.

Haven't seen it yet, but from what I knew of him, he would have been right on for Eddie 'Legs' McNeil in CBGB.

I think he did a great job in this series. I believed his performance, and was shocked at what could happen when people look the other way.
