Paula's relationship to Dawson - 1974

When Eddie asks Paula how long she has known John Dawson she says "all of my life". Does this mean she is his daughter or, related in some other way, has been open to his physical abuse of her.

Opinions please...

If you've seen the other films, you should know the answer...

A great series.

I must have missed this as well--watched all 3 but don't get Paula's connection other than her daughter was a victim in the original

I have only seen the first film of the trilogy. To me, the implication was that Paula was raped herself by Dawson when she was a child. She continued to have a sexual relationship with him all of her life. Perhaps it was interrupted when she got married. Perhaps not. In fact, a question raised in my mind was whether Paula's murdered daughter might have been the child of Dawson as well. In other words, perhaps Dawson raped and killed his own daughter. This film is incredibly dark, to say the least.

This is how I took it as well but I do not know if that is really what the film-makers were implying. He (Dawson) seemed to have an un-natural hold over Paula but I do not think she knew that he was responsible for her daughter and perhaps he husbands deaths right? Her love for her daughter seemed genuine to me
Dawson was one sick MF'er. But I love SB-which is what brought me to these movies in 1st place.
Uggh so much twisting of my guts with these 3 movies. Unanswered questions that I have.
I think I am going to get the books. (to further torture myself I guess).

Some of the responses in this thread have been surprising to me for the simple reason that I never thought like that. I just thought, when Paula says that she has known Dawson all her life, that she meant they knew each other since childhood. Weren't they, like, nearer in age than Paula and Eddie?

It's like there's a party in my mouth and everyone's throwing up.
