WTF! This is a COMEDY film, not a single bit of horror in it

they sell this to me as a HORROR film, no matter how many excuses of clever twist you wanna throw at this, this is a comedic movie! not a single time in the whole movie was i scared
how can i be? everything is extremely telegraphed for laughs and so we can say "ohhh yeah dumb horror movies are like this hahaha so clever"
this is in the same league as scary movie, i really think this needs a re-clasification
one of the worst movies i've seen, even a bad horror movie (the ones that this mocks) is more honest, they try to scare you with an attempt at horror and fail but this is not that, this is outright comedy

TERRIBLE MOVIE

reply

Some people got scared by some scenes, besides just because it didn't scare you doesn't mean it's bad.

reply

Do you hate grammar and punctuation?

You may not have been scared, and that's fine, but the movie is still a horror movie. Your opinion of it doesn't change the genre. I didn't laugh once at Scary Movie 2, doesn't mean it wasn't a comedy.

Elements are telegraphed not for comedy, but for deconstruction.

Does IMDB hate apostrophes?

Save your fingers man, that's just a creepy stalker. He's already stalking me, bumping my posts haha

reply

Wow. Work that out all on your own? The fact that they had a killer unicorn didn't clue you in on the fact that this movie was satire?

The concept was great. And they could've taken this movie to a really terrifying place. Not monsters attacking our heroes, but humans having full control over their situation. That's what it really seemed for a while. If only they'd explore that. Instead they made this stupid satire for horror geeks to get all excited about, how they get all the references and so on.

This movie was an elitist way of looking at horror tropes, made with the finesse of a baboon. They should've gone the full horror route, not the satire one. It's self-applauding, boring and masturbatory.

reply

No. The movie was poking fun at the state of the horror genre and ludicrisy of horror fans who lap up the same thing over and over and over again. If you didn't get it, the "Gods" were the audiences of the horror genre. This movie is perfection.

reply

Lol exactly. This movie is, though, perfection

reply

Jen has it 100% accurate. And the horror geeks don't want to admit they're being made fun of.

I call it an "anti horror" film myself, but still it belongs in many classifications. This is a very deep film, with lots of symbolism, lots of metaphors, lots of what we usually like in "writing". I was impressed.

Even the smallest lines were meaningful. Where the "officer" characters say they're celebrating, the woman among the "enlisted" who is closest to them, denotes the subtle but important difference, that she is "drinking" instead of celebrating. From this excellent line, we see that the enlisted are doing jobs, and not part of the insane ideology, although they do "abet" it, though we get the impression they would rather not.

The bits with the Japanese girls was even more telling, and allusions not only to the "camaraderie" of Battle Royale, but also to the Japanese prison commander of Kwai, who said "better to die like a soldier than live like a coolie". Indeed, all the other cultures decide not to be slaves to horror ahead of the U.S. culture. Talk about a great slap in the face against the horror geeks. Wow!

I thought all the screen writers in the business were hacks, but these two guys made me change my opinion. The fact is they stepped on a lot of toes, but those are toes that needed to be stepped on.

Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

but also to the Japanese prison commander of Kwai, who said "better to die like a soldier than live like a coolie".

We get it. You watched Bridge on the River Kwai and couldn't wait to use that quote over and over and over again.

Indeed, all the other cultures decide not to be slaves to horror ahead of the U.S. culture.

No idea what you're talking about here. All those cultures failed, not decided to not be slaves.

Can't stop the signal.

reply

Wait- you can actually get scared from horror movies? I'm jealous, I'm so jaded, I haven't been scared since probably Hellraiser when I was 13.

reply

Everybody says that.

Can't stop the signal.

You think your opinion is a fact? That's precious :'D

Look people, a moron :)

Even as a comedy it's still scarier than the soulless, grimdark reboots of horror classics of today.

I completely agree. There is nothing worse than a comedy horror movie. If it were a horror movie with amusing situations that would have been a whole different movie. A real disappointment.

It's not comedy. It's satire. Scary Movie is a comedy spoofing horror movies. This movie was poking fun at horror movies in a satirical way. Big difference. It's sort of like the way The Truman Show poked fun at how people get too engrossed in television. It's not a 'ha ha' comedy. Not supposed to be. Just irony and satire.

reply

Two sides of the same coin. The movie doesn't play like a straight horror movie and that was what was expected, at least by this viewer.

BTW, Happy Halloween!

I watched this movie last night expecting it to be a little scary, but I found it hilarious. And you know what? I actually enjoyed it.

The movie was supposed to be satirical: that was the point. But unlike the "Scary Movie" franchise: this one was actually good.

reply

I found it really fun and enjoyable while watching it and didn't feel scared at all. But when I went to bed I had weird dreams about the dismemberment goblins and the zombies. Peculiar.....

reply

Oh. And the clown as well. But I can live with that as I hate clowns in general.....

This movie is great, I am surprised that you are so offended this was not what you expected it to be. Some people just cant get past their bold headed expectations and have to hate what a enjoyable ride it could have been.
