So,what do you think happens next?

The ancient ones have risen. Do they create their own world order by enslaving the humanity? If so, for what reason?
Do they wipe us out and start fresh with something new?
Are all the monsters their minions? Or do the go too?

Rumor has it that next, Joss will bring in Buffy the Vampire Slayer to kill the Old Ones and save the world. Also, to engage in a little harmless soft-core lesbian experimentation because movies give Joss more freedom than the TV networks did.

Preproduction starts in September. I swear.

I can't think of a better idea for a sequel.

I think the Old Ones get their asses handed to them by a far more technologically advanced human race than they had presumed was living on the surface. A few depleted uranium shells from an Abrams or a shaped charge from a cruise missile ought to take those bitches down real quick.

Also, Bill Pullman plays the president that coordinates a multi-national alliance to take them down.

Love for Anne Sellors.

Maybe Jesus returns and kicks their goddamned asses.

The rituals had gone on so long that the people carrying them out were so invested and afraid that they didn't consider that a greater good existed.

reply

I thought that WAS Jesus coming out of the ground.

That’s my take on it too. I’m a Christian and thought they were so focused on surviving by repeated sacrifices they forgot to look up.Through out the movie they talk about what is “down”.

A sequel will be cool and there's plenty of room for it.

For ex: this ritual was clearly essential to them, it was something they needed judging by how angry they got when it was interrupted. But why exactly - that is something the movie can explore by researching the mythos. And of course, eventually they will stumble upon some deux ex machina and conclude the movie. All of this happens in some cool apocalyptic setting of some sort. etc...

That would work better as a prequel than as a sequel.

Requiescat in pace, Krystle Papile. I'll always miss you.

In the bleakest of my imaginings, humanity is mostly wiped out with a few kept as food and/or playthings of the Ancient Ones. Soon the lesser monsters (spawn of the Ancient Ones) begin to devour each other, until only the Old Ones are left. To rule a lifeless mudball of a planet.

In my more optimistic thoughts, humanity tries to mount a resistance and holds on for a time or in small pockets.

The ancient gods, i.e. the audience, having been displeased with the failure of killing the characters, cause a reboot to happen, in attempt to gain back favor.

I know what happened next; I got up and made myself a turkey & cranberry sandwich, and I do have to say, it was Godly.
