My BIGGEST Complaint!

I am a fan of this show...

But why doesnt Ruby tell her fans in full detail how she got to big.

Why doesnt she call out Mcdonalds and burger king or what ever fast food she was eating?

they are loading the food with chemicals, and its causing a huge epidemic in our country.

Its slowing down everyones metabolism and the rate of obesity and diabities is twice what it was 20 years ago.

And please, dont respond to this by saying people dont have to eat mcdonalds...

Not everyone can afford "real" food, so they substitute food for mcdonalds.

Didn't she mention fast food? I think if she mentioned the chains by name, she'd have to deal with a lawsuit Anyhoo, I think it's kinda obvious how she got that way; she also mentioned emotional eating.

reply

I think it's probably because she realizes that it's about HER and not the fastfood. The fastfood didn't get her there, true, it helped her along the way but it was her food addiction that caused her to eat so much of it. She knows that she has to battle her inner demons to succeed and that means not blaming other people or fastfood chains or making excuses and just getting down to what caused her to eat so much.

"But why doesnt Ruby tell her fans in full detail how she got to big. "

it's obvious that she gained all that weight by eating whatever she could find. i doubt she was very finicky about what she ate.

reply

Unless those fast food chains forced food down her throat there's no one else to blame...and she did one time talk about her favorite fast food restaurant which she ate from everyday...

The epidemic is caused by eating thousands of calories a day and watching television while we do it.

Horse hockey on blaming being poor. You can eat more cheaply than McD's and Burger King. You just have to learn what pots and pans are. You can make very nutritious soups, chilis, vegetables and lean meats much more cheaply than you can eat fast food. But you have to get off your butt to do it.

reply

With all due respect ... no ... you can't. At least not where I live.

As an example, you could go to McDonalds and, off the dollar menu buy a double cheeseburger, fries, and a coke and spend less than $5.

Now go to the grocery store and buy yourself some fresh vegetables and make a salad. Not iceburg lettuce ... that's garbage. I mean buy REAL leafy greens. Maybe even spinich? Buy fresh tomatoes and some green peppers. Maybe pick up some clementines or some berries or some other fresh fruit.

Now walk to the meat case and buy some lean meat. Be sure to get the 95/5 hamburger or fresh, lean chicken breast. Oh you want some fish? Go to the seafood counter and buy the real fresh salmon ... no processed cans for us.

You want milk? Be sure to buy it without the growth hormones ... that'll run you up another few dollars. Soda's definately out ... but tea is good for you. Tea has anti-oxidants. We'll pick up a box of that. But sugar for the tea ... sugar isn't healthy. Hey, let's go down they baking aisle and we'll buy a bag of Splenda ... wow, there's $7 down the tube.

Now rewind ... tell me again how you can make a meal for under $5.

Yes, yes, yes ... we HAVE to start eating healthier as a nation. McD's and Burger King are greasy death in a bag. But we HAVE to be honest with one another ... eating healthier IS going to cost you more. But it should be an expense WORTH paying for, yes?

I had tall, naturally thin co-worker who would tell me how lazy fat people were AS she swallowed an entire bag of peanut M&Ms. She would lecture to me (yes, I'm heavy) about how Weight Watchers was a scam and if people would just STOP EATING then they wouldn't need Weight Watchers ... she said this AS she drank her 3rd can of Pepsi.

Everyone's body is different ... we all face the struggles of life differently ... but we can at least be kind while talking about it. That includes telling "poor people" to get off their butt ...

I totally agree with keller0, people using the excuse that it's "too expensive to cook at home" are just lazy and don't want to learn to cook or look for sales at grocery stores. For a while I was getting McDonalds every night because I thought I was saving money (and was too lazy to cook). I wanted to start eating healthy after a while and found healthy recipes online, and started cooking at home. I have definitely saved money (and have lost some weight). It's all about buying in bulk and finding sales. Also, they have some good deals at farmers markets.

As far as the main topic, I don't think the OP is at all interested in how exactly Ruby got that big, I think they're more interested in getting people to talk about how bad fast food is and to make excuses. Yes fast food is bad, but honestly the excuses the OP makes are just lame.

It can be done, if you know the places to go. The first thing to locate in your city are the Angel Food Ministries sites. You can purchase fresh fruit and veggies for a week for a family of four for $28.00. They also offer packages of meats and pantry staples, again, enough for a family of four for a week, under $30.00. Yes, they accept food stamps.

The local Community Harvest Food Bank, run by the Department of Agriculture distributes food nationwide and also can provide you with locations of all local food banks such as those through The Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries and local private and religious organizations.

As the interest in organic foods increases, many communities now have Food Co-operatives. Invest in a membership and donate some time each month there. Members and working members receive discounts not available to the general public. The local Co-op can also provide you with information on local Farmer's Markets and usually run informative programs throughout the month to help people learn about better nutrition and alternative sources of protein, such as whole grains and legumes to replace meat at every meal.

For over a year, I had no income due to an injury and lived on $200.00/month of Food Stamps. As part of my pain management, I don't eat processed foods, fast food or any of the normal "Standard American Diet" but follow more of a "Mediterranean Diet" to reduce and prevent inflammation. It is inexpensive, yet I managed to maintain it during that year by being conscious of portion size, which thanks to our "super size" fast food mindset, most people don't do.

Yea, that stuff will cost more than five dollars, but you can get several meals out of it. If you can get 20 dollars worth of groceries and make a couple of meals out of it, it's about the same as getting one meal from a fast food place. Plus, heaven forbid someone spends an extra what, 2-3 dollars to eat healthier.

That's a lousy excuse. Sure, fresh vegetables, meat, etc. will be more expensive but what you're buying would feed a family or make more than 1 serving. That $5 McDonalds is barely enough for 1 person.

That's the problem with people that come up with excuses regarding dieting and eating right, or changing their eating habits. The first thing they say is that it's too expensive. Bull s#!t. Stop making excuses for being fat and eating crap.

"fast food places should be making more of an effort to make healthy foods."

keller,
from what i've heard, fast food places now offer soup and salads but i really don't understand why people blame fast foods for becoming obese.

fast food is a choice and people who choose to eat that way don't care about what they eat which is why they're obese. people should be held responsible for what they choose, not the fast food chains. they sell junk because people buy it, they're not to blame.

That is what annoys me: is they did not make her big. No one forces anyone to eat that crap (and i eat it too but it is my choice when I do). Take some responsibility and not give her a "pass" on why she's so big. Salads are on the $1 menu as well if you're saying people can't eat "real food" In fact it's cheaper to buy food and take lunch to work. Just sayin'!!

And please, dont respond to this by saying people dont have to eat mcdonalds...

Why not if it is valid? Mcdonalds didn't make Ruby fat. Ruby did by eating junk and eating too much and not exercising. She doesn't need to tell people that. We already know. People who blame their weight problems on fast food places are just cowards who don't want to take any responsibility for anything. So actually, I can see Ruby doing that.

Ever heard of Lean Cuisines, Smart Ones, or Progresso Soups?
Baked Lays? Special K Bars?
Every store has them and they help me stay very skinny.
They are just as cheap and easy and fast as any take-out bag and a lot less disgusting. If you go down the aisles and read labels, lots of stuff is lower in calories than you might expect.

My point is, people who insist that they can't get skinny because they don't have the time or money to cook from scratch are either oblivious or lying or just purposely avoiding. Most skinny people don't cook any more than overweight people. I enjoy cooking, but I live alone... and anyway I don't enjoy it *that* much....*punctures film*

Look in the first epi they showed her fridge, even her coke was not diet coke. That's so basic.
She just likes to eat lots of yummy stuff.
