Do you think Ruby will ever reach her goal weight

Of 140 lbs? I think no because she constantly has set backs, and it seems like until she finds out the "thing" that made her gain the weight (if there even is a thing), she probably won't make a ton of progress. That's just what I think though.

reply

No because then people will stop waiting on and paying attention to her. She's not willing to do the work required to actually lose the weight. If anyone pushes her to actually do something and better herself, she get belligerent and fires them.

The level of work required for a woman coming from Ruby's condition to maintain a 140 pounds is pretty intense.. according to an episode I saw last week where she refused to do the beach training, she isn't even willing to listen to trainers and push herself to actually lose much more weight. She went on and on about the exercise potentially hurting her knees and such, when in actuality she wasn't even trying from the beginning of the workout that day. Not to sound negative, but I can't see her being dedicated enough to keep that goal weight. She might achieve it someday, but I don't think she would maintain it long.

My thoughts exactly.

And everything is always about her. When Georgia's son was preparing to leave and Georgia was upset about it, Ruby actually said "WHAT ABOUT MEEEEEEE".

It is getting old.

reply

put her on 'Biggest Loser' and she will reach her goal weight...having her own show is just pandering to her and she won't lose anything.

reply

Yeah, I pretty much agree with all of you. I forgot to add I don't think she has much will power either, since she's always making excuses.

There are always reasons for being overweight, but I think Ruby focuses too much on the things standing in her way when she really just needs to focus on changing her habits and not sabotaging herself.

She'll be able to resolve the other things as they come along, but she is definitely dragging her feet.

Not likely. What I have seen of this season has been pretty bad and I don't care for it anymore, to just watch her make excuses for everything.

She spends all her time now trying to find something in her past that she can blame her wight gain on and not deal with the here and now. There may be something there or maybe it's a dead end path with no one to blame but her bad choices. She thinks if she finds that magic lost memory all will be right. What if she finds something and it's even worse that what she was expecting and that put her further in depression.

Until she can walk in a store and not go right for the candy section and see what she can get away with there is little hope for her long term. She has to learn that with her body, there is nothing she can get away with. It's fat or fit, nothing inbetween. Like Yoda said there is no try. It's do or do not.

looking back.

Whatever happened in Ruby's childhood is over. If she stays in the past, she will not ever move forward. Yes, she has to deal with it, but she needs the type of therapist who will help her move on and I don't think this therapist is really giving her the tools to move on.

A person does not have to spend a million hours in the gym either. Last year, there were a set of twins featured in People who did WWs and all they did was WALK..that was their exercise and each one lost a 100 pounds or so I believe. WW's teaches people portion control ...but the best diet is the one a person will stick with and be a lifestyle change..

There is profit in Ruby's pain for a lot of people..

I've lost 302 lbs. with Weight Watchers. WW *has* taught me how to eat healthy. I've learned what my triggers are and I eat very normally. Do I still struggle? Yes, I always will, just like an alcoholic struggles. But all I can do is take what I've learned and apply it every day.

I eat very normally. I didn't starve myself to lose the weight and I didn't exercise myself to death lose the weight. It came off slowly, but it came off. I've completely changed my lifestyle since I started. I now cook all my meals instead of going to fast food restaurants. I eat 3 well-balanced meals a day, with 2-3 snacks inbetween as well as a small dessert- every night. I workout 4-5 days a week; Zumba (I'm an instructor) & strenth training.

I've worked way too hard to get the weight off and get to a healthy weight. I'm NOT stopping now.

The problem with weight watchers, or any of those programs, is it doesn't teach you how to eat normally once the diet is over. You shouldn't have to be on the program forever.

Actually, the secret to maintaining weight loss forever IS accepting that you WILL have to watch what you eat forever, and that is a fact. That's also why WW does work so well for many people. You're learning how to live and eat in the real world, and not relying on packaged meals. Granted, a large percentage of people go back to their old habits, but that can happen with any weight-loss plan, not just WWs. WWs does give you the tools to make this forever if you so choose.

Like most everyone agrees, she will not likely reach her goal weight. She probably could if she got a gastric bypass, but I do not believe she could maintain the weight loss.

reply

I definitely agree with those who have pointed out if she does somehow lose the weight, she would probably lose a great deal of attention as well. She's a major attention seeker, and she probably wants that ongoing support to lose weight, and attention for all of the problems associated with being her size.
