So how does a fat woman get a TV show and her fat farming paid for?

Know a TV producer..

This show makes me sick.

reply

Obviously, at over 500 pounds, this woman needs help or she will die. That help can be expensive, so what if someone is paying for it. She is going to hopefully be an inspiration to the 60% of the US that is overweight. Why waste your time bashing someone trying to make a change for the better? Count your blessings and be grateful that YOU don't need to know a producer so that you can get help to lose 300 pounds.

reply

I know plenty of people who did this and didn't have to make a public spectacle of themselves. Wanna be an inspiration? Do it without having to contribute to this growing plague of trainwreck television.

reply

A lot of people will see this and be inspired to take control of their own lives and get healthy. That is worth it for her, I'm sure.

This reality show differs so much from most other ones, which center on self-centered, fame hungry little numbnuts. She is an intrinsically sweet and genuine person who is trying to overcome a very serious physical problem, and is willing to share her struggle on national television.

I'd say that's pretty inspirational.

@ metal

How can the show make you sick if it hadn't even aired yet when you made this stupid comment. You're an idiot.

reply

The whole idea that this giant sow can get a TV show is what makes me sick... dolt!

reply

[deleted]

Oh, Metal Monster, I feel sorry for you. This woman is reaching out; heck if she can get it paid for, why not? She is smart and an inspiration. You will eat your words when you see her at the finish line.

reply

Reaching out? She put herself there... why should America at large (no pun intended) have to deal with it?

Trainwreck television. Next "Life with the Octomom!"

reply

By being brave enough to put herself through this on tv she could be an inspiration for others to try to overcome their obstacles.

If this sickens you so much - don't watch.

Never expect someone to lead you from a ditch if they benefit from you staying in it!

"By being brave enough to put herself through this on tv she could be an inspiration for others to try to overcome their obstacles."

she's doing it for money and attention. if she wasn't doing it for those reasons she'd be going to overeaters and other weight loss groups in her own town.

reply

Maybe she's already done that and it hasn't worked for her. If this does, and it's not harmful to anyone what's the problem?

Frankly this is better than 95% of the other "reality" crap out there.

And, as previously state - IF YOU OBJECT TO IT THEN DON'T WATCH!!

Seriously, why are spending time and bitching and moaning about something you can't stand?

Are you this ignorant on all the boards you go to or is it just this one dude?

I know this is an old post but I wonder about that too. I know when this show was on it was mentioned that Ruby had been receiving disability benefits for 10 years at that time. People have discussed this on "My 600-lb Life" board as well. How are they paying for everything because very likely they are all on disability and I think disability has a limit as how much money you can take in each month. They could lose their benefits if they exceeded this. If they are paying them money to appear - and I suspect they are - they are doing it in a way that Social Security and the IRS doesn't find out about it.

I agree with you that they seem to be doing it for the attention also. Those on the other shows, like 600-lb Life, seem to be doing that as well.

reply

Maybe if you watched the show you would have more compassion.

reply

So don't watch it.

20 dollars can buy many peanuts!
Explain how!

reply

i think it takes a lot of courage to have to go through all of that on television. her pain is visible for anybody watching it. i'm happy that she's getting the help she needs. go ruby!

reply

Well, since the rest of the world has formally and officially declared war on fat folks, I'd say if you weigh damn near 500lbs. it'd be pretty easy to get your own show. And not for the honorable and inspirational reasons people think either. This is still a skinny man/woman's world and sometimes I think these weight loss shows are just a big playground where the skinny kids get to pick on the fat kid with a really big audience and even bigger paychecks.

How does a total slut like Tila Tequila get a show where she is supposedly looking for love?
Come on, you're blowing this out of proportion. What is wrong with a woman doing a TV show about her trying to become healthy? I'll be honest, America could use shows like that. You never know, shows like THe Biggest Loser have definately inspired people (like at my gym). But whatever, if you're going to make insulting arguments and make yourself look like a fool be my guest.

Tila's a filthy skank who figured out how to get attention and stretch her 15 minutes of fame to 30 minutes.

"i think it takes a lot of courage to have to go through all of that on television. her pain is visible for anybody watching it."

it doesn't take much courage to get on tv, whine, cry and get paid for it.
she will never get enough attention in her life, she has psych issues that should be taken care of before the weight loss.

she will do anything for attention, this tv show won't even satisfy that.

reply

You obviously don't watch the show. She is getting psychological help.

reply

This is a waste of a time slot, I am glad the woman decided to loose weight but seriously a show following it? Not that interesting

reply

yeah...a genuine reality show with a purpose sucks. i might as well go watch the scripted "reality" shows on MTV or something. something substantial..... god get over yourselves.

reply

There's nothing "genuine" about this. It's television... it's ALL lies.

reply

The only person looking for fame is you Metal Monster. This show does not effect you

reply

How can anyone seriously call this show a trainwreck?? That term is better reserved for the trashy, ho-bags on Rock of Love or A (Double) Shot at Love. Heck, even The Bachelor/Bachelorette is hardly any better with men and women debasing themselves for someone they barely know who also happens to be making out with ten other people at the same time.

Ruby is a friendly, sweet, genuine person who is trying to improve her life the old-fashioned way through eating properly and exercising and inspiring others to do the same. She isn't trying to lose 20, 30 or even 50 pounds, she's trying to shed half of her body weight if not more. She is every kind of awesome and I hope she reaches her goal and is able to lead a happy, healthy life.

"It squeaks when you bang it."
"That's what she said."

reply

^^

why should America at large (no pun intended) have to deal with it?

We don't. Just turn off your goddamned television if you don't want to watch it.

Have you come to make a martyr out of me?

Soy fantasma!

reply

I saw commercial about this show were Ruby was having problems with her trainer, so tuned in to see what it's all about.

Anyway, I don't think this show is any worse than any of the other reality shows that are on, in fact Ruby's goal is to get healthy and live a happier life. I don't see why anyone would be against that.

Plus, xoAngelRomanovxo said it best, just change the change the channel. If you get the Style channel, then you obviously have a plethora of other options.
