Jacques Mesrine + Alfred Hitchcock

I've recently noticed two small details that make me think about Hitchcock, when I'm watching the Mesrine films:

1. There's a recurring theme in the Mesrine movies which bears a good similarity to a haunting theme used by Bernard Herrmann in Hitchcock's 'Vertigo'. Herrmann also uses the same theme in 'Obsession' by Brian de Palma. 'Obsession' is based on 'Vertigo', but you probably already know that.
I have no complaint with Marco Beltrami & Marcus Trumpp's use of that theme, since Herrmann also uses a theme from Wagner's 'Tristan Und Isolde' in the 'Vertigo' soundtrack, as a reference to a love intertwined with deception, and subsequent tragedy.

2. Apparently the historical Jacques Mesrine was a big fan of gangster & crime films of the 40's & 50's. So, I wonder if he ever saw, 'Dial M For Murder' by Hitchcock, because that film concludes with Ray Milland, exposed as the true murderous culprit, offering Scotch whisky to the police inspector, his intended victim (his wife, played by Grace Kelly), and her lover. He does this in a true spirit of camaraderie and bonhomie, which is not the typical reaction of a criminal recently exposed and about to be arrested & hauled off to jail.
Jacques Mesrine did virtually the same thing with Police Commissioner Broussard, but the drink is champagne, and fine quality cigars are proffered by the legendary criminal to the cop who's about to put the handcuffs on good old Jacky!
This is documented in the various books which cover Mesrine, including the Penguin book authored by Carey Schofield.
