Two classic 70s and 80s Eastern films that inspired this one...

Invincible Armour (1977)
When Zen Yi (Rick Yune) is going to the "restaurant" is definitely based on a similar scene in "Invincible Armour" aka "Ying zhao tie bu shan" (1977).
He wants to eat but it's a trap and he gets attacked by the enemies with sharp knifes or blades, almost the same scene can be found in the 70s classic film where John Liu kicks the bad guys' asses.

Duel To Death (1983)
Later on the same guy (Zen Yi) gets attacked outside and the enemies catch him with cords / ropes (they shoot them at him and the sound we can hear is definitely taken from an old 70s Kung Fu film), a similar scene can be found in "Duel To Death" aka "Xian si jue" (1983), where the enemies / Ninjas catch the heros by shooting with thick cords or strings and pull them around.
